I debated for a long time before making the jump to OOMA, but I am glad I did. I did have to wait for my phone number to be ported but it was done on time and my system works great!! I have read that some people had a noisey connection, I had that too until I realized that my AT&T cordless phone base was causing the noise. I just moved them about 2 feet apart and now I have perfect sound, I now have no hum in my PC speakers either! What is really cool is that I back fed my home phone circuit so all of my jacks have that cool OOMA tone when I pick up the phone. I also went with the premiere service because that included the cost of the number port and alot of other cool features. I was also concerned about what would happen if the internet went down but if that happens OOMA forwards my calls to my cell phone. I am very happy with this purchase.
What's great about it: Crystal clear sound One time purchase
What's not so great: We are still working on customer service.

In a word, ooma is fantastic. I haven't had a home phone since the 1990's, but for a one time fee, I decided to get back in the game. The call quality is fantastic, but I do have a fast (FIOS) connection into the house. The setup is fairly straight forward, and the available features are impressive - especially if you sign up for ooma Premier (multiple lines, multi ring, call fwd'ing, etc). But make no mistake, the best part of ooma us absolutely the price; one time and I am done with phone bills as long as ooma is in business. For me, the break even is about 5 months. I am also a big Skype user and would have went that route, but Skype does not yet support number porting. With ooma, I was able to port a 15 year old number.
I've also paired this with a VTech DS6321-3, which allows me to use bluetooth with my home phone. This primarily does 2 things: 1) It allows me to use any of my bluetooth headsets with my landline number, a nice feature when taking work related conference calls from home, 2) enables my cell phones to pair with the home phone. This allows me to "dock" my iPhone to its charger, and when it rings, it rings every VTech phone in the house. I can see who is calling on any of the VTech handsets, and can easily answer the call. It clearly indicates it is an inbound cell call (and from which paired phone - max 2 can be paired), but do note that using the phone in this fashion (scenario #2) still uses cell phone minutes.
What's great about it: Slick looking, great value, excellent call quality, advanced features with ooma Premier
What's not so great: Set up isn't difficult, but if you fear gadgets I could see where you might be intimidated

The Ooma is an awesome voip alternative to the phone companys analog home phone line. We dropped analog phone and DSL (~65.00/month) and now have Road Runner (~30.00/month) only. The Ooma was on sale for $200.00. In 6 months it will pay for itself!!! The sound quality is great. Customer service has been wonderful. If you look at blogs on this system-look at the dates. It looks like Ooma had issues earlier on but they appear to have corrected them. I had no problems what so ever. My number was ported over when they said it would. Very painless. The initial connection might be a little difficult for a non-technical person but I beleive that Ooma's tech support could help you out if you have any. Oh yea, tech support is open 7 days a week, extended business hours. WOW! Overall: I would buy it again in a heartbeat. I LOVE IT!
What's great about it: Allows you to ditch the phone company's control of your phone line

This product works in minutes; the 60 day trial shows off some of the company's nice features, however the number porting process takes a long time, and if you decide not to port a number to this service and take an existing number, in Illinois at least, there are very few numbers available.
The multi ring feature is very nice, because someone can call your Ooam number and it will simultaneously ring to a cell phone (this will allow one to keep his/her cell phone number private, while still being able to answer the phone on the cell phone)
overall this is a money saving product that I'd definately recommend

Ooma service is the sleeping giant of the VOIP world. Sure Magic Jack is only $19 a year, but you can't beat a one time buy and never pay a bill again. The greatest advantage is this is a stand-alone box with no need for a computer. Highly recommended.
What's great about it: Value, call quality, never a phone bill again
What's not so great: Still have to pay taxes on use every month

I was worried about spending so much money on a phone system I didn't know much about, but I am so happy I did. Installation was quick and easy. The phone works perfectly, no dropped calls or anything like with the magic jack. It did take me a bit to figure out that I no longer had to put in area codes to make local calls and to use the 1 when making long distant calls. Other than that it has been a breeze and we love it.

I love this little box. It was a way for me to get rid of cable phone service. Cable was charging me $40 a month for phone service. this device does the exact same thing for less than $14. The initial price of the box ($150) will be payed off in approximately 6 months. So far, I have not noticed any call degradation. I did a one time, but Im guessing it was the person's phone on the other end. There was a delay in the sounds. But it was only noticeable on 1 call so far. So, Im guessing it was their cell phone that was the problem. It seems to be pretty decent in quality. Doesnt seem cheap or flimsy. You may have to do a bit of internet research on the Ooma box and its features to get all of its potential. I plan on installing "whole house wiring" for phone lines, internet lines and cable lines. From what I understand, you can put this box anywhere you have a phone jack. (i.e. all phone jacks run back to a central location where your internet router would be).
