I actually saw the new live action version before watching the anime version. I think I somehow prefer the live action even though both movies are lacking in actual plot and good storytelling.

An anime classic that needs a better edition

Considered to be a benchmark by which many other works are judged against, it's still relevant today. I would have just gone for the 25th anniversary edition but the upgrade to a steelbook edition nabbed both and English and Japanese digital copy.
The only thing I can sing it for is that this release is from Anchor Bay and they used to dig up incredible extras for their releases and this is movie only.
There are pluses and minuses to this release. It's finally in HD but it appears to be an old transfer. Can't recommend for the collector.
