Just what I was looking for

Wanted to digitize a several thousand slides I have but was reluctant to purchase a dedicated slide copier. After all, when you are done with your slides you don't need it anymore. The V600 does it all - makes great copies from photos, negatives and slides with very little corrected, if any needed, after the scan. No more searching for the "right" 35mm slide copier - this is it!

V600 Photo Scanner

I have been using this scanner for almost a year and love it. Since I purchased it, I have scanned over 5,000 photographs, slides and negatives. Other than the fact that I have to load the pictures manually into the scanner (which you have to do in almost all of them) it is simple to use. I do have one complaint though and that is the fact the scanner does NOT have a carriage to hold 110 photo negatives for scanning. That is one drawback I am trying to solve as I have over 500 strips of 110 negatives to scan.

Just simply does its job; quality drivers perform ideal business scanning of documents especially in PDF format. Only gripe Epson needs to supply drivers in all Window and Apple formats even as the product gets older in life cycle. Had to upgrade to their latest and greatest due to no drivers upgraded on Epson 3200 scanner. Come on Epson support your products, you have excellent drivers Epson develops and you know your machines. Do not send us to third party driver makers. Enough said stand behind your products for life. We will return to you in even greater numbers. Thank you for listening hopefully you will react and change procedures.

I purchased the V600 because I have over 1800 slides from my parents I wanted to digitize. Some of these slides are over 60 years old. Most of these are medium 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 slides. The scanner did a great job, however it was not always accurate in its automatic detection when I put 3 slides in the holder. I ended up mostly putting just two slides in the holder at a time with side separation. I also had some 35mm slides and it did a great job on those, no issues. Other than the color correction which did a great job as many slides had faded, I did not use any of the other "correction" features the scanner offers. I may go back and rescan some pictures if I determine I might get a better scan using of the machine's technology, but I have not tried that yet. For medium format slides I can't imagine anything beating this machine.

This scanner is great. I had many trays of 35mm slides dating back to 1958 and needed to get them onto my laptop. I scanned 5,782 slides with no trouble and I was pleased with the speed. I then scanned a large number of 35mm negatives. I am now in the process of scanning all of my prints. Getting all of these photos on my laptop has allowed me to organize them into easily accessible files to print or share with my children and grandchildren. This scanner was one of my all time best buys.

good scans despite outdated software

Don't buy this scanner for speed. It isn't. Buy it if you are looking for quality scans at a reasonable price. This it delivers.
While the included software does a decent job of photo restoration (color, fading), overall, the software is outdated and lacking; after my first day I purchased third party software. Which I don't think you should have to do at this price level.
That being said, the v600 is well designed with thoughtful button placement, quiet operation (relatively speaking) and solid construction; the glass underside has, so far, stayed clean of airborne dust and such.
How are the scans, you ask? IMO, above the average for it's price-point.

I have been using this scanner to scan my family pictures into my computer, so far I am very happy with the results, I have not tried the film scanner, so I don't know how that will be yet, but I recommend this scanner for anybody, the quality of the scanning is very good.
