Better Quality Scans and Software Than I Expected
on July 10, 2019

I had an older flatbed scanner and bought a 35mm scanner, but neither would do the quality I wanted. So I bought this scanner to do old family slides. I was amazed at the quality of 35mm scans. And the auto color correction software did an excellent job. Especially on old Kodachrome slides. Some from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. I'm a retired professional color corrector and drum scanner operator and not easily impressed. This scanner will do a better job than most people need.

Full featured, professional unit

Unfortunately, very few all-in-one printer-fax-scanners have the ability to scan transparencies and negatives for want of a simple light above the scanner bed. I specifically needed to scan slides so I was forced to purchase this even though I had a scanner in my HP all-in-one unit. I was (still am) not to happy about needed to find now a second space for another piece of equipment, but say-la-vee.
That said, the unit is uber professional -- all the bells and whistles of a really professional piece of equipment. Scanned a variety of slide and negative types and the results was excellent. The only complaint so far is the User Interface it by no means User Friendly or intuitive and it took me awhile to figure out how to configure it to get slides to scan properly. It too almost an hour to figure out that there is a light in the hood and that the white reflector sheet must be removed before you can scan transparencies. THAT was not immediately apparent and the error message that came up in the software wasn't easily interpreted.
Another downer, and I'll admit its a small thing but nontheless really annoying -- the plastic film carrier that is used to hold the slides on the scanner glass is not another thing that needs a place in my all-to cluttered desk area. It would have been so easy for Epson designers to make a slot under the scanner or on the top hood that one could hold the plastic carriers. The hood as you can see from the picture is rounded so you can't even just leave the carriers sitting on top of the unit -- they tend to slide off. So now you have these two things that need to live somewhere. Ebson, you've got this big unit -- you could easily incorporate a place in it to store the carriers.

Reliable and easy to use

I bought an Epson V600 scanner last winter to digitize slides and prints. So far I've scanned about 2,000 slides and I've had no problems at all. The scanner offers several settings to vary the quality and size of the scans. It came with photo-editing software that enables me to improve the final images. Overall, I've had no problems with the machine.

Not as impressed as I should be

I am going through my grandpa's slide collection which is why I bought it. Although it does the job, it glitches with every scan. I have to force shut down the program and unplug the scanner from my laptop between each scan. I am obviously very thankful for this product because I'm reviving some amazing history but it is such a headache to use. I'm returning the product.

Spent a lot of money at an unnamed store. They sent the negatives away and lost four sets of negatives in the process. Never let them go and do them at home!

A bit slow, but excellent quality!

I have slides, negatives and old pictures to scan. I already had a fast scanner, which worked well for relatively new photos in good condition, but it did not work for slides and negatives.
This Epson scanner has fantastic software included, which adjusts color on old faded photos, and the slides and negatives scan easily, but slow. I don’t want to complain about the slowness too much, because that may be necessary for the great quality of the scans. Photos scan quickly, but loading the bed takes more time than a batch scanner.

Great for Old Pictures!!

I've had this Epson V600 Photo Scanner for awhile now. It scanned some of my old pictures and it is great! You can put in several pictures on the scanning area and it will select each picture to scan separately. It is a must have if you have old photos that you need or want to digitize.
