Bought 4 or 5 years ago, used it extensively for photography and illusutration works, however I haven't used it past several months. It works very well with hamrick Vuescan.

Great machine!

I bought this inexpensive machine yesterday for what I thought would be a tedious. lengthy bout of document scanning (a great aunt's record of publishers she had sent manuscripts to, contained in an old hundred-plus-page Composition Book). I finished it in less than a couple of hours. The scanner is fast, easy to set up and use and provides clear and sharp files, all unlike the old, slow Palo Alto, California company's 5370C scanner (which that company no longer supports - there is no driver for any operating system later than XP).
My next project is to finish scanning old negatives my father had taken in the nineteen-teens, twenties, thirties and later so that I can preserve them and distribute CDs/DVDs to his side of the family. The old scanner, which I bought because it had a light source with which to scan negatives, took me weeks to scan about a third of the negatives with mixed results. The rest of THAT job should be a breeze!

Does What My 15-yr Old HP6300 Does and No More

But What really upsets me ... the "manual" can only be accessed through the web at Epson site; it can't be downloaded as a PDF file; it isn't installed with Setup!
Why did they do this?
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Outside of the fact the the CD that came with the scanner did not install the right driver for Windows 7, 64 bit OS and had to go to the Internet to get the driver, the scanner does a great job on slides and photos. Have not yet scanned negative film or or scanned documents.

pleased but frustrated

Product arrived as promised and performed as described in the specs. Can see me using it for the conversion to digital files of my extensive slide collection. Will also be able to scan most of my smaller format paintings before sending them away to galleries. Did lose sleep over the fact that because no instruction manuel was provided had to fly by the seat of my pants in trying to determine how to, not so much scan but how to, move my scanned files to I-photos. In the end I accidently locked out my entire 8000 images in the I-photo file and had to take my computer to a shop to reset everything. Nerve racking and costly. Great product but in need of a user friendly manuel.

Epson V600 Photo Scanner

The Epson V600 Photo Scanner does an excellent job. I have scanned color photos and the color reproduction is very good. The reason that I bought the scanner is mainly for scanning slides, as that is what I have shot in the past. I previously had a CanoScan FS272OU Film Scanner, and while it was satisfactory, it did not have an updated driver for Vista, and now I have Windows 7. The Epson scanner is great for slides. And, with Photoshop Elements 9, which comes with the scanner, you can do whatever touch up is needed. I have had a few slides scanned commercially in the past, with supposedly the best scanner available, and I believe the Epson scanner does as good a job. Also, the few slides that I had scanned commercially cost me more than the cost of the Epson scanner. So, it is a good buy.
The scanner is well built, and controls are well located. It was easy to install and the instructions for doing so well written.
The instructions for scanning slides were easy to follow.
I have only a couple of minor complaints. The tab "C" on the film holder could be a little longer and the indentation on the scanner that it fits into a little deeper so that the film holder is better connected to the scanner, but as is works OK. The other is the location of the On/Off button. Its location at the rear of the scanner is difficult to reach in my environment for the scanner.
I would recommend the scanner to any photographer.

It works great

I bought the V600 to copy my personal collection of 35mm slides and negatives from my many years of work and travels. They represent the diary of my life and are, thus, very important to me. Digitizing them to pass on to my family (and to bore them) is very important to me and thus a machine that will fulfill this need is important. In the V600 I think that I have found what I need.
The 35mm slide and negative copiers work very well. Expect the slide copier to be somewhat slow and it only takes four slides at a time. It would be useful if Epson could make a carrier that could be loaded and then placed on the stage. In that way one tray could be running while the second was being loaded. Adding and removing slides from the tray is inconvenient without some form of retaining device – you just drop them into open spaces in the tray laid on the top of the stage! If you pick the tray up – or move it, the slides fall out! The tray itself is not locked in place and moves about as you load it. If the recess on tab “C” were made deeper and a similar recessed tab were made at the top of the tray, the tray would be more stable while being loaded. The same applies for tab “A” for mounting the negative side of the tray (the same tray mounted in the opposite direction) and for the large format tray. But remember, the results are very good!
The machine arrived well packed with all parts safely stowed. The instructions for setup and use are somewhat torturous and, for me, more than a little incomplete. But remember, the results are very good! The software appears to “stick” sometimes. Without warning I am occasionally required to “preview” a set of slides before I can copy them (a further time delay) generally this is not required. I may be missing the option – remember I am still learning with a limiting set of instructions, but a location to add notes on each slide would be a great advantage.
The decision making process to buy the V600 – rather than the V500, was difficult. I still ponder over the differences and the apparent need (at least at the time of purchase) to buy the 600 through the internet while the 500 is freely available in stores. I think that I am missing something. But remember, I have only just started with this great machine >6,000 slides and >100 rolls on negatives to go and the results so far are very good!

Epson V600

I just bought the Epson V600 with some reserve. I am not a computer Guru, and I read other reviews which mentioned that it would be hard to set up. I have Windows 7 operating system. I put the install disk in the computer, followed the on screen directions and within 15 minutes I was scanning both photographs and slides with excellent results. I would recommend this scanner without hesitation. If it lasts like my other Epson products I will continue to be very Happy.
