Easy Setup

Just finished setting up the Epson V600 scanner and it was a snap to install. The first thing I did was scan a 645 negative that I had tried to scan with my old scanner but the results was not favorable. The image obtained from the V600 using the Digital ICE was outstanding considering the negative was 24 years old and contained lint and dust. I'm more than happy with the scanner.
The only feature that I miss from my old Epson Perfection 3170 is that the V600 does not have a software smart panel that I'm able to find.

I am thrilled with my new scanner, it does a great job of copying 35mm slides into a very printable format. It is so easy to use. I have scanned many documents and old photos and used the ice technology to make very good quality prints. I have printed 8x10's from old slides and photo's and am amazed at how well they came out. I would recommend the Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner to anyone.

Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner

So far, I have used this scanner only for slides, which was the primary reason that I purchased it. In particular, older formats of slide film, which are larger, are the ones that I wanted to scan. This unit does an excellent job! I am very pleased with the results. This unit is versatile, user friendly, attractive, quiet, and fast. The results of the scans so far, have exceeded my expectations!

Plan is to try and scan the thousands of old photos into the PC and then burn dvds for the familiy. So far have scanned hundreds and have been impressed how the scanner restores the color of many of the old faded photos. They are not like new but significantly better. Am very happy with the performance and ease of use.

Impressive Scanner

I bought this scanner to convert a number of old family photos to .jpg files. I have had a good experience with Epson ink-jet printers, but had not tried any of their scanners before. I am using it with an iMac running Mountain Lion. I had no trouble setting it up and getting it running. It literally took about five minutes. It produces beautiful scans with rich colors easily in "Auto" mode. In "Home" mode there are additional features. One that I especially wanted to use is the digital ICE technology for cleaning up dust and scratches. Previously I have done this manually using photoshop, and that is tedious. Digital ICE does it all automatically at the cost of a somewhat longer scan time and produces very nice results. I feel that I have barely scratched the surface regarding what this scanner can do, but would highly recommend it to anyone needing a high-performance photo scanner.

Although I've had for over a month, just started using the scanner two weeks ago.
I am VERY pleased with all the options and the ease of use! In addition, I had to do some negatives and could not believe how well they came out!
I have a lot (A LOT) to scan in as I just cleaned out my father's house and this has already been a blessing. The fact that I can put books on the scanner truly helps.
I have already recommended this to several friends.

Excellent scanner for the money

I bought the V600 to replace my older Perfection 2400 Photo scanner, which still worked but was beginning to show signs of wear. I was particularly interested in the V600's film/slide scanning capability, although I also have an excellent 35mm film scanner that the V600 can't touch.
Out of the box I tried a color scan of a magazine cover that happened to be nearby. The reproduction was perfect, with no evidence of screening or other print media artifacts. Then I tried some old 35mm color negatives that were taken over 20 years ago with a cheap consumer camera. The scans were quite good using the default scanner settings and automatic adjustment features.
This is where things began to unravel a bit. The manual adjustments available in the V600 are minimal and not at all intuitive to someone with a deep understanding of color correction. As is usual with all Epson products, the user guide is superficial and fairly useless, so color correcting a poorly exposed negative was very difficult. Fortunately, there are third party applications that are quite effective and work well with the V600, so I only use the Epson Scan software for basic stuff like document scanning and to scan old photographs for archiving or restoration.
Overall, I got what I paid for and am happy with the V600. I'm a big fan of Epson products in general, and would recommend the V600 to anyone needing a mid range flatbed scanner.

Epson V600

I bought this to replace my old Epson 4490 which died recently. My need was based on slide scanning and it seems to do well at this task. It is a little slow at scanning, and loading and unloading is a pain, but the 3200 dpi scans are good.(~1 min per slide)
A power interrupt on the scanner will require a software restart. It does remember setup parameters so once things are working as you want them its easy to stop and start, however.
The options are many, but the scans are very good.
