Super Photo Scanner

Over the last 2 years I have used the Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner to digitize (i.e., make a JPEG image) of over one thousand slides and old photos. I have no complaints. The setup instructions were crystal clear, and the manual is easy to follow and written in plain English with many key diagrams. The V600 restored the original color to my wedding pictures, which were over 30 years old. The copies of my slides were better than the originals due to the back lighting, color restoration, and color changing features of the software. Now I can view my newly created digital version of my slides on my computer rather than using a projector and screen. I would definitely recommend the V600 to anyone.

A lot of scanner for the money!

I have scanned nearly 8,000 35mm slides and negatives with the V600 scanner. I have found it to be easy to use; I use it almost exclusively in full automatic mode. At 600ppi I get a 3600 x 2400 pixel image from a 35mm slide or negative that looks very good on a 22-inch monitor. The only complaint I have is that, after about 7,000 scans, the scanner began to put a narrow black strip on three sides of the scanned image. That doesn't detract from the usefulness of the scan, and I can crop it off with Photoshop if I choose. I have recommended the scanner to a colleague, who is using it in the office with good results. For the money I don't think anyone could expect more. Now, doggone it, I have to come up with metadata for those nearly 3,000 scans!

Blue/green line appeared in scans.

Brand new scanner, and put through 250 or so 35mm color slides and noticed a blue/green line suddenly appearing? Reinstalled software, no change. Looked for update driver and the newest is 2013 copy....Seriously! They must want you to purchase a current 3rd party driver?

Outstanding scanner

I purchased this scanner a week ago primarily to scan the thousands of 35mm slides that I have accumulated over the last 45 years. The Epson Perfection V600 has met all of my expectations from when I opened the box, installed the software and driver, scanned my first photo and began scanning my slides. The installation was totally problem free and startup was a breeze. The quality of the few photos that I have scanned was fabulous. The quality of the slides that I have scanned from the seventies and eighties was also great. I had a number of "special" slides from the sixties that also scanned extremely well. It has been quite enjoyable to look at our boys as they grew up.
I would certainly recommend this scanner to anyone who desires very good quality of their photos! Some people have complained about the slide holder; I just taped it down to the flat surface and it is no problem at all. I have been a user of Photoshop Elements for 5 years, so using it to touch up the scanned slides was a sinch. The V600 is a great buy.

As a slide scanner lacks versatility

I have been scanning slides in formats other than standard 35mm format from an older Yashika TLR (25.4mm x 25.4mm and 36mm x 36mm). In Auto Mode, this scanner does not seem to recognize a slide format other than the standard 35mm x 27mm so you have to resort to a manual and laborious procedure to scan a slide. In manual mode it does not allow you to adjust scan parameters whilst zoomed in on a slide. The user manual is so convoluted that you can't decipher a reasonable procedure to scan a slide (too many linked references as to what to do next - not step-wise) and alludes to icons (such as auto locate) that are nowhere to be found.

I actually purchased the V600 in Dec. 2011 and I have a bad habit of not registering equipment I purchase. I bought it to assist me in genealogy work I do. It has been great coping old photos, negatives and paper documents. A valuable asset to my work. So, after 4 years of use, I must rate the V600 with 5 STARS PLUS....

Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner

I love this photo scanner. I bought it to transfer my dad's 1960's slides to computer and got excellent quality photos from every slide. The process was simple and quick thanks to the user friendly set-up. I also scanned printed photos as well as 35mm negatives, all with excellent results. It's so nice to be able to scan a negative strip and come out with a photo! This scanner has the recommended high resolution I researched prior to purchase. I'm very pleased with my purchase. Excellent product.

Better than I thought it would be

I previously used an Epson Perfection 2450 scanner. Although the V600 and the 2450 are flatbed scanners, they do a reasonable job with film, the V600 definitely better. I recently scanned a 35mm Tri-X B&W negative at 4800 ppi (16-bit) and enlarged it to 11x17 on my Epson R2000 printer. The result was remarkably good. I just wish the V600 accepted 4x5 film, like the 2450 did.
