Just what I needed

I was familiar with Epson flatbed scanners from using them at the newspaper I work at, so I kind of knew what to expect.
This is a newer version than any we have at work, though, and it is better than what I've used before.
I've used it thus far to scan a couple hundred old family photos for a digital projected image show at the funeral of a close relative. Everyone was in awe of the great, sharp, and colorful images of 50-year-old photos. I use it with a MacBook Pro equipped with Photoshop.
Also have scanned dozens Kodachrome slides. It did a great job. Use of the slide holder made the effort easy. I anticipate using it in this capacity hundreds of more times as I develop digital projection shows for groups in my hobby from among the thousands of slides I have taken in the past 22 years.

Much better than expected

I have some experience with scanners, this is not my first one. I have owned other flatbed scanners, I own a film scanner and I wanted this one just to give me the ability to scan 6x6 medium format film. I am very impressed with the quality of the scans, the scanner delivers the resolution that the camera was able to get. A full format 6x6 scan will give you a 50MP scan that will have a great resolution. The software is easy to use so I am now using this scanner as my main tool and only used the dedicated 35mm scanner for the huge resolution scans that I need once in a while. Overall a great product.
I also like the digital ICE functionality, however be prepared that it will double your scan time.

Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner

I appreciate my new photo scanner. I have done well with the automated processes. I have successfully scanned family photos from the 1880's and negatives from as early as 1919. I have not used the enhanced capabilities yet, but I am hopeful that I will be able to save photos and negatives that are more damaged and require better tool than the automated processes provide. I have used the software that was provided, as well as, "Silverfast 8" software that I have also purchased based on other reviews about this scanner. Sometimes the "organic" software works best and sometimes "Silverfast 8" works best depending on the object being scanned. Because of my success, I would recommend this photo scanner to those wanting to scan old photos and negatives using the automated features.
After more experience, I expect to be able to give this product a 5 star rating base on the cost of the scanner and a good quality scan.

Great Scanner

I used this scanner to process a few hundred old B&W photos and a few hundred old color photos. Some of the color photos were very faded etc. I was surprised that most of them came out much better than I ever expected. Being able to process three or four pictures at a time was a big time saver too.
I also scanned about a thousand old slides (both 35mm and 127). The 35mm always produced good results. The 127 slides were not good quality to begin and they didn't get any better by scanning. Some of the 127 images were truncated by the scanner. I had to manipulate things a bit with some of them (about 10%), but most scanned fine.

The scanner does a very good job with slides, negatives and photos. Very sensitive. Set in one place where it will not be banged around and don't move it. Within a year and a half the scanner became out of focus on slides. Could not be repaired, so I bought a second one. Luckily I bought it with Visa, which gave me an extended one year warranty.
4 stars mostly because of the software. There are a couple of scanning software that are better, but not enough to justify buying for my purposes. The Epson Mac software has some bugs that are very annoying! I use the Professional mode and the settings are not saved. This means that for each scan I have to redo all the settings. Like I said, very annoying. If you'll be using this scanner and want to get the best out of it, you'll need better software.

I do love the results of this scanner. The only problem I have found and it's probably me, is that I cannot get it to go directly from my Corel program, I have to use its own path and then export it to Corel. I keep thinking there is a way, and I probably will eventually find it. The colors are amazing in the finished scan and the clarity is perfect. I also have an Epson printer and both my printer and the scanner have impressed me greatly. I do pressed flower art and people are always feeling the paper to see if the flowers are real.

My purchase of the Epson V600 Scanner was one of the best things I've purchased for a long time. It's all it was advertised to be and more I love it. The price was right, the features of Photoshop work perfectly with this scanner. My pictures were outstanding.

great for detailed artwork

This scanner is great for scanning detailed scratchboard artwork. I can get great resolution and see individual scratches that are not visible with even a high quality camera. This is very useful for showing off detailed artwork to buyers. I think this should be high enough quality to produce a giclee print from. It's also a cinch to use.
