WOW!!

I just received my scanner and set it up. My first scan was of a picture I painted on a canvas board with acrylic paint. I was amazed how bright it is. I also scanned an old photo and was amazed of how bright, vibrant the colors are and the clarity when photo is enlarged on computer screen. I cannot wait to scan the 2000+ photos I have.

Excellent photo scanner

So far I have used this scanner for slides and photos. Some of the slides were 50+ years old and were faded. Some also had dust that would not come off using a gentle microcloth and air brush. The scanner did an excellent job removing dust and restoring color. There were a few that I still had to bring into Photoshop, but overall the scanner did an excellent job. I do have an issue with Epson, though. I had an excellent Epson photo scanner that was almost as good as this scanner and had lots of used left in it. Epson quit updating its software after Windows XP so it became a huge paperweight. Yes, there is alternate software out there that will operate the scanner, and according to reviews does a good job. However, the cost of the software was over half the price of the V600 scanner. I opted for the new scanner which has some improved technology. In effect, Epson forces the user to buy a new scanner or buy after-market software that you hope will continue to do a good job with your equipment.

A Bit Better Than a Basic Photo Scanner

I bought this photo scanner to digitize 35mm slides going back to the 1960s. There is a definite learning curve with the V600...and the directions provided are a bit hard to decipher. Nonetheless, was pleased with the quality of the images that the scanner produces. I figure that the cycle time for copying four 35mm images is about six minutes from the time one set of slides is installed and the next set of four is ready to be copied. I would say that is an acceptable production rate but I would be happier if the process was faster.

Good and bad things about this scanner

I am happy with the quality of scans. The one thing that bothers me is every other scan comes out in this small format then I have to re-scan to get a full image. I have brought both images into light-room. The smaller version loses quality over the larger version. Is there anything I can do???

Frustration

There is no driver to allow it to work on Windows 10. We found a driver for the model 550 and it works with that driver but I purchased a 600 and would like all the features I paid for. If not for this frustrating problem I would have given it at least 4 stars.

Works as Advertised

I have been looking for a scanner which can do slides, negatives, photos, and documents . . . EASILY! So far I've done over 1,000 slides (some of which are almost 50 years old) and negatives without a hitch. Color correction is pretty good; however, with software on my computer the final result is very good. The additional software allows me to correct spots, creases, and defects. I have a long, long way to go; however, I am confident that I'll get through the whole process without problems. One thing: You have to be patient as this is not the fastest process. The scanner will do four slides at a time which takes a minute or two. I settled on the 600 dpi resolution which gives me a photo from 1.5-3.0 MB which is about the same size taken by a good digital camera.

Terrific scanner

I purchased this scanner to scan slides from 40-50 years ago. I have used Epson scanners before in other settings, but never owned one myself.
I am thrilled to finally own one that I can use at any time!
The scanner processes four slides at a time. This takes a little time to go through an 80-slide carousel, but it's well worth the wait. I have not used all of the features of this scanner, but other reviews indicate that the other features are very useful.
Epson makes a fine product, one that I would highly recommend.

Easy and fast

Purchased this scanner based on reviews and I have been very pleased. Mostly I need to copy slides, and the V600 will do 4 of them at a time, but it creates a separate record for each one. Color quality is excellent and I have not needed to clean them up. I have also scanned some photos, both color and black & white. Both have scanned well, though I was a little surprised that the black & white photos copied very well in the Home mode, using the "greyscale" setting, instead of the "black & white" setting. Some photos needed adjustment, and the Home mode worked very nicely. Also, some of the old color photos needed correction and cropping, but the "Professional" mode gave me choices that cleaned and improved the photos very well. I can fill the scanning surface with several photos, keeping a space between them, and once again, each photo creates a separate file, even though several are on the scanner surface at the same time. This makes the scanning go quickly.
I highly recommend the V600 if you want excellent results and the ability to correct flaws on your photos. I have not yet used the scanner for negatives, but expect to see excellent results, based on the quality I've seen so far.
