personal review of epson v600 photo scanner

Hello,
Only had the scanner for a couple of weeks so still checking out all features and working of it.. however...
Overall I found the v600 a excellent scanner,
specifics...
the good---
1. no problems what came in the box
2. installation was smooth no problems with my win7 64 bit system ...
3. scanning of slides and negatives was overall good there was slide issue but talk about that further down .. automatic frame detection work fine but a issue... in some cases..
4. scanning pictures no problems and quality is good .. automatic image detection work fine
5. fast very satisfied with scanning speed... even on hi dpi setings...
6. the abbyy ocr program that came with it appears to work fine.... no problems working with the main epson program..
7. epson scanning software looks good although i had to look around a little bit to figure how to called things up.. i guess i should have read the manual..
the poor--
1. the only paper you get is the installation sheet which is very simple but sufficient.. but... if you have a problem installing.. have the epson number standing by...
note: you only get access to the manual once the software is installed...
2. there still appear to have a frame detecting issue (v300 and v500 same issue) . there 2 type of 35 mm film , 135 film and 126 35 mm film... the difference lies in the frame size...!! 126 is a smaller frame size and the automatic frame detection setup for 135mm.. end result with with 126 negatives you may end up creeping basically parts of 2 images in the same frame, you 'll have to go back manually adjust the frame outline... epson teck may or may not know about this issue..oh this is a common issue with all film scanners that i am aware of...
3. thought the integration of the abbyy ocr with the epson software was a little clunky ... think it could be more seemless..... but overall satisfactory...
still looking at the other features of the epson
but i would recommend this product to my friends.

Epson V600 Photo Scanner

I decided to degitize my 1970-80s photographs and slides. The V600 transfers, with ease, five 3.5 by 5 photographs at a time. This saves time versus the one-at-a-time units that are commonly sold in catelogs. Scanning software alowed me to salvage some very faded images. This is an outstanding product.

I have wanted a scanner for a while. I particularly wanted to scan old photos for which I didn't have the negative. I am very particular about color and detail. I scanned one of my favorite photos, printed from a slide. It had faded badly and was very yellowish. It scanned beautifully. I corrected the color and now it looks like it did originally. I like the options and it is very easy to set up and use. A great product that delivers.

I'm very pleased with the photo scanner we purchased. Having a hard time orientating pics and settings I want as there were no instructions in the box on operation. That is the only thing I would have preferred different. To have instructions in the box with the scanner. Great product and will recommend the product every time. Please send the instructions if possible. I know that I can go online and get them but the gesture would be nice.

Reviewing the Epson v600 scaner

This scanner and it's software does an execlent job with photo negatives that fit the included film holders. ie. 35mm and slides. It processes these as batch input 4 slides, 12 35mm negatives depending on how they are cut. The preview automatically frames these negatives to size. However curled negatives are hard to load and never flatten. Single cut 35mm negatives are impossible. I have some old negative of varing sizes. I was glad to be able to scan them. Since I scanned old negatives it would be nice to have more holders for these older formats like the 2 by 2, 110, and 126 and half frame 126. This is my fourth scanner and I am happy to finally have one that works so well with negatives.

I am using this scanner to scan years of family slides and photos. I'm very please with the scanner's performance so far. The only problem I've had is that at times the color correction feature seems to fail. I first noticed when a scan of a slide was corrected and looked great, but had some lint. When I rescanned it, it had a strong yellow cast as did many slides after it. Then, it started correcting the color again. The scanner has done this a few times now. I don't know why. Other than that, I'm just really happy to have a way to preserve my family's memories.

Works As Advertised

The Epson V600 Photo Scanner works as advertised. Quick set-up and copying photos with-in 30 minutes. I bought this for the multiple photo scan into individual files feature. I had this with an older All-In-One printer and found out that is a rarity in All-In-Ones.
The only negative is the location of the Start Buttons on the front of the device. They are located directly under the area where you open the lid. I use the software on my computer to control the device, but many times, when opening the lid to clear the photos, it is too easy to touch the buttons and start another unwanted command.
Other than that, this is an awesome device and so far I am impressed.

The V600 is easy to use. Photos do not to have to be strait when scanning, V600 automatically straitens them for you; also, you are able to scan multiple photos at one time and V600 will separate them so you have individual photos instead of a group of photos on one page. In the professional mode, I am able to edit each photo, as I deem necessary. When scanning negatives or slides I am able to scan two strips of six negatives at one time, the same with slides.
I am most satisfied with the V600 scanner, Thank you for a product well done.
