I'm an amateur photographer. I shoot both film and digital, so that's why I bought this scanner.
It is my first photo scanner and so far the best one I had. I bought it after searching a lot and reading many reviews.
I am happy with what I get. Not so easy to use but after some time we get used to.

Pretty Perfect!

Received my Epson Perfection V600 one day after order + free shipping! 100% satisfied with B&H Photo. While I have yet to try any slides, my prints of various sizes and formats have been scanned perfectly. The color reproduction is spot on. And, the color reproduction enhancement function really fixes up the old faded color in my oldest prints. If I had to criticize, it would be that the saturation level is off a hair. No big deal as my Aperture software is doing an excellent job with photo finishing. With prints where I took very sharp exposures using my old Pentax and Nikon N6006 cameras, sharpening with my software was at a minimum.
I am very satisfied with the quality and ease of use and setup with the V600. I am using a Mac and no issues with drivers or downloading software. I have not even tried to use any higher resolutions, save only going from 300dpi to 800dpi on some print scans.
Looking forward to doing many more scans!
Great product!

Photo Scanner

I am delighted with this scanner for the huge process of archiving our old hard copy photos for the kids. It's easy to use, even for my grandma self. The directions could have better explained how to scan multiple photos to separate files but all you need to do is make sure they're a bit spread apart on the scanner bed and it pops into that mode as well, but some of my first scans came out as a single file of several pictures. The corrections it allows you to make to enhance pictures are adequate for the amount you'll want to bother with when doing a massive project. All in all, this is a great workhorse for preserving old photos. The speed is good as it eliminates the "preview" mode many scanners have, goes right to the scanner and it's easy to designate where the photos will be stored on your computer so you can file, name and sort as you go.

V600 Scanner

I experienced easy set up with my scanner and it works great for me.
The scan screen is clear enabling you to be able to choose your PPI of choice. I use the iMac with the Adobe a Creative Suite. Photoshop recognizes the scanner as the import tool and both function extremely well with one another.
Happy User!

Excellent scanner, but slow

Bought the V600 to replace an older brand X photo scanner due to incompatibility with Windows 7. Very pleased overall with results, especially when using Pro settings. To speed up the scanning process (I have thousands of slides to digitize), I'm using the Home mode and accepting the narrower selection of editing features. Wish the 35mm slide tray was a little more exact as there is slop around the slides, and every slide has to be manually adjusted in preview to capture the entire image. Takes quite a while to scan, but since it is pretty much automatic, I do other tasks in between changing out slides and doing the preview adjustments. Have done a number of old photos as well and am quite happy with the restored results. Also would be nice if Epson offered carriers for other than the 35 mm and med format- have seen some offered by outside vendors but not too sure if they would work.

Great Scanner; Twain Driver & Elements software

When scanning thro Editing Software, close the Scanner Program and then from the Image Editor: select import thro the scanner. Works Great! Excellent scans for this class of scanner. Elements 9 software is outdated, latest is Elements 12. This is unimportant if you have editing software already. This is a terrific scanner overall for the $, giving terrific detail and color rendering. I have been using it now for several months on Windows 8 system & on a Mac and get great results on both. Recommend it for the budget minded.

Performs as Advertised

The V600 is a fine product and performs as advertised. It was easy to setup and I was able to put it into use within 30 minutes. The only delay was waiting for the software to load and then update. My only comment would be that the instructions are minimal at best. I did not have difficulty as it's installation and setup was not unlike many other products I own. However, for some people, they may require more step by step instructions.

excellent scanner

This is a great scanner, with excellent software. I'm an artist, so detail and color are important. I've used this scanner with photographic prints, negatives, and slides and had excellent results that need little editing. My earlier scanners (not Epson) had been disappointing with slides and negatives -- muddy color and detail. This scanner does a much better job. I also paint watercolors, which I scan. The scanner does a good job with these, too, though the color needs more adjustment. I found that I had to scan them as documents rather than photos (how I had scanned them before). I have also used the OCR, ABBYY FineReader, and found it excellent in producing editable text. Altogether, this is a terrific scanner. My only wish is that I could afford a larger one!
