Outstanding

I was holding out for a V700 but couldn't wait so I purchased the V600. I'm new to scanning but I have friends who are not. They have said I need to be prepared for a long learning curve. My first scans were good, and after just a few my results were outstanding! A friend printed several scans from B&W and color negs on an R1900 and the results were spectacular! He couldn't believe the results from a 35 mm negative. I could not be happier!

V600 Photo Scanner

It's the perfect instrument for someone like me who start making a family album of photos. But there is something missing as template for old negatives which is smaller or bigger than the templates supplied with the V600. But anyway, I consider it like a very good instrument especially when you include Adobe Photoshop. I already have Corel Paint Shop Pro X3 but it's a very good complement.
Thank to Epson for the good service.

Excellent Choice

I've used Epson scanners for many years and this V600 is absolutely the best. I bought it because I needed a good negative and positive film scanner and the results are great. I am an artist and one medium I work in is black & white film using a Holga - a toy camera. I need a scanner that will produce an honest result - a sharp high resolution digital image from my negatives. I used to work with 35mm Kodachrome and this scanner allows me to recapture some of my photo art from years ago. For the cost, I could not find a better scanner.

Epson Perfection V600 scanner

Easy installation of the software that came with the scanner. I did not install the Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 that came with the scanner because I have Adobe CS5.
The one issue I had with the installation was with the USB cable that was supplied with the scanner. It was dead out of box. The computer did not recognize the scanner when I turned it on even after using several USB ports. I used another USB cable that I had and the computer recognized the scanner immediately. This was a minor annoyance.
My first photo scan was excellent. It is hard to tell the original from the copy.

Great scanner!

Pros:
I love that the software detects separate objects and automatically selects and scans them into separate files. This is great when scanning lots of photos for family trees.
The DMax is very good. Thanks to Epson for listing that info; Canon won't release it on their scanners, even on request.
Good support for Windows 7.
I like that the lid holds itself up both at 45 and 90 degrees. Most brands don't offer that except on all-in-one models.
Cons:
What cons? None yet?

Epson Scanner Delights Photography Archivers

The Epson V600 Scanner is easy to use and produces photo files that greatly enhance the prints, negatives, and slides that photographers have been storing in various albums and boxes over the years. It provides an enjoyable way to create virtual albums with all media combined for the albums of your choice.
In particular, the "digital ice" feature makes photos even more beautiful than the original versions.

Versatile and fast

This scanner installs seamlessly under WIN-XP . The native Epson software works fine as do VueScan and Abby Fine reader. I expect that the software installation for Linux will be just as good: Epson support for Linux was very important factor in my choice of this scanner The V600 replaces my Epson GT-8500 which although working fine, has a much lower resolution (400 dpi), and a measurably bigger footprint on the desk.

So far so good

I bought the scanner (v600) primarily to scan color negatives & old photos. So far, its working pretty good w/r to scan quality.
Installation:
Installation was pretty easy. You plugin the power and USB cable, then install the software. The Epson Scan installs (btw 5-10 minutes) & your running if your computer recognizes the scanner. One thing to pay attention to is be sure to turn the power on on the side.
Setup:
Overall, setup wasn't difficult. The only complaint is setting up the film holder and putting the negatives in & out of it. It takes a little time, especially if your scanning alot of negatives. I would suggest to Epson if they could make the holder easier by putting a hinge or something that just tilts/opens up to put the film in & snaps close.
I would suggest to Epson if you could make the holder easier by putting a hinge or something that just tilts/opens up to put the film in & snaps close. Its kinda painful right now.
Scan Quality:
From my minimum usage and experience, scan quality seems to be as advertised - so far so good. I've been using the Fully Auto mode which makes it "dead easy" for anyone. I haven't tried the other features like dust removal or ICE yet... but have set the auto mode and we'll see.
Thanks for a great product and hope you'll listen (w/r to the holder) and make it better.
