Epson v600 Scanner

I purchased this scanner so I could scan some pictures from my old photo albums that are 57 years old. I scanned pages that had 6+ pictures on each page. The scanner worked perfectly. When I put a page with 6 old black and white photos it detected and scanned each photo separate from all of them. This was a time saver because I do not have to use another program to crop and save each picture. I did have some of the pages where it would not separate the pages but this is not a big problem for me. This scanner is worth every penny I paid for it. If you want an excellent scanner at a good price this is the one for you. The only negative is it will not separate photos of 7 and more especially if they are not all the same size. It need separation to scan individual pictures.

the V600 is a versatile scanner that produces remarkably good scans of photographic material right out of the box. The scans are a little soft but the included sharpening feature compensates. The software controls of color temperature, hue etc are adequate but far from the state of the art. The V600 also produces very good scans of 35 mm slides and negatives. The results are not quite as good as a dedicated scanner but are very close. The color adjustments software problems are more obvious with transparencies than pictures. The transparency holders are awful. They consist of 2 pieces that are not hinged. Unless your negatives lie limply in place, getting them into the holder without a wrestling match is awkward. In addition the holders really do not hold negatives flat. The scanner does a pretty good job of compensating but it isn't the best solution.

Great addition to my computer setup

Great machine and simple to use. The simple "scan" button is wonderful. But it's necessary to get very familiar with the User's Guide and getting to know where the info is located in it. For instance, it took some time to learn how to change resolution when scanning 35mm slides, but once I did it at 1200 dpi, Wow. Removing the slides from the document table is somewhat clumsy, but this is greatly outweighed by the versatility for the money.

Great Scanner

I have used this only a few times, but my wife has scanned over 200 photos with excellent results. It makes a great scanner for documents and PDF files. Easy to use reasonable fast. Straight forward settings.
For photos the ICE settings work very good. Not a replacement for photo shop but with a corrected scan to start with it is a real time saver when saving old photos. Very clear with little additional work needed. I have other flat bed scanners, and dedicated film scanner, which I no longer use. A word of caution the only way I have been able to install this scanner on windows 7 pro is with the installation disk. I was missing the disk and tried to install off the website with out any luck. But with the disk took less than 5 min.

I have been using my V600 to scan slides that are up to 30+ years old. For a flatbed scanner, one word, amazing. I was able to use it straight away without even reading a user manual. The user interface is very easy to follow. I am not sure why some say it is complicated, it is far from that. spend a small amount of time tinkering with buttons to get a feel for what it can do and you will learn more about what it is capable of then reading any user manual. Great scanner for the price.

Great product. Just like it said, load software, plug in and scan. Did just that and had no problems.

V 600 Scanner

I bought this scanner with hi hopes of using it on various size photo negatives that I kept through the years, some being 50 years old.
At first I had a lot of trouble producing digital pictures I wanted from the negatives scanned to my computer. The info supplied with scanner was good to install and hook up everything, but that's where it ended. I spent quite a few hours trying and retrying to produce what I called good pictures on the computer. So far I've successfully scanned 4 different size negatives. You have to experiment with the holders for some of the smaller negatives. I'm sure this machine is capable of producing a lot better pictures once I get better at using it.
So far (about 1 month of ownership) I am satisfied with my purchase. I'm not a pro photographer just a hobbiest and I would recommend this V600 to others.

V600 Film Scanner Review
on March 17, 2011

It worked right out of the box. I probably scanned 600 35mm slides in the first few days. At one point, there was a green vertical line showing up on the final .jpeg. I thought the machine was broken, but reviewed the trouble shoot help menu, and it suggested that I change the resolution settings and that fixed the problem.
I love the ability to scan Hasselblad negatives (B&W too) and slides as well as 35mm color negatives and positive film.
The auto mode setting seemed to work fine for 35 mm slides.
In the professional setting, there are many choices for resolution settings, which is very nice. However, be aware if you pick 9600, your final .jpeg file will be 32 megs, which is very large.
Overall, it is a great machine and well worth the cost because it does 35mm as well as medium format negs as well as positive film.
