Limited capabilities

For what it is, it is not a bad scanner. I’ve used it to scan pictures for a webinar that I did for a museum and they turned out very well. However, something Epson fails to clearly mention in their literature is that scanning of film (negatives and positive such as slides) is very limited to ONLY modern film sizes. As an historian, I run across odd sizes of film. I bought this thinking I would be able to scan 8 x 10 and 4 x 5 glass negatives, 3-1/2 x 3-1/2 B&W film negatives, and 4 x 3-1/4 B&W glass positives (Magic Lantern slides). For those sizes it fails miserably. The backlight in the cover is only about 3-1/4” wide, so scanning with a backlight will ONLY work if your film fits in Epson’s film holders which position the film over this narrow window. It won’t scan negatives placed directly on the glass. They have to be in one of the holders for the machine to work scanning non reflective materials.

High Quality Scans

I gave this as a present for Xmas, and the recipient was very pleased. It had the capability to scan large format negatives, that was the single feature which sold me on it. I have used it as well, the Epson scan software is very easy to use and I think is better than my Cano-scan setup. I would recommend this to anyone who si in need of a negative scanner to capture those REALLY old 2"x3" negatives. We now how have a digital copy of memories going back over 60 years ago! Thank You!

I purchased this scanner to preserve family photos that have been languishing in boxes for years. I haven’t used the negative or slide functions as yet but the photo reproduction. Is excellent!

The V600 Photo Scanner is the best in its class that I have ever operated & am glad I finally acquired it as I gear up to archive a trove of family documents & photos. So far it has interfaced with a number of applications - everything from those that were included with it to a range of others (e.g., Office & PDF apps) - results of which have been stellar.

Great hardware, software could use updating

I'm happy with the results I've gotten but I wish it didn't take so long to scan negatives. I understand there is an Epson 2 software update that greatly helps with this but is only available for Mac.
Please consider making the update available for windows as well. I also wish that when I scan a negative, the scanning preview area wasn't so small and hard to gauge how it will actually turn out. And I scan the whole film strip because letting the software crop the frames on the automated mode doesn't preserve the full image, I have to crop them manually on a very tiny part of the screen.
Sometimes I've been tempted to scan a negative at different exposures and combine the details in photoshop using a HDR merge setting. I wish that could be an option with the scanner.
So like I said, great results and equipment, wish the accompanying software was better.

Relatively good slide scanner

Reasonable price for good quality scans. Tedious to use, since you can only scan four slides at a time, and it takes a long time per slide at the highest dpi setting. The computer would not communicate with the scanner after the initial installation. Fairly easy fix - I had to download a new driver and restart the computer.

Great scanner

Garbage software - that is harsh, it gets the job done at times with effort. The software has a series of issues that periodically shows-up, and I've established a work-around. The scanner quality makes up for the extra work.
I would recommend this to a friend!
