WARNING - not real 64 bit driver
on August 19, 2011

I just found out that Epson's idea of Win7 64-bit support is to install a 32 bit driver that works with a 64 bit OS. So forget any processing benefit from your 64-bit OS and 64-bit scanning software. Considering it is also only USB 2.0 I actually regret buying the thing. I know - my bad for believing the 64 bit support was native.

Good News & Bad News

While the results are overall better than my previous scanner, getting there is WAY less than half the fun. The film and slide holders are much more difficult to position properly, the on/off switch very inconveniently located more than halfway back on one side, and the software so counter-intuitive that I have not been able to preserve the scan settings from one group of four slides to the next four, even within the same session. I would recommend the V600 only to professionals who don't mind spending the extra effort needed to get the best results.

After endless hours, I still have not gotten this scanner to work with my computer! It did manage to scan 2 photos. I would say they took about 4 to 5 minutes each. I am looking to scan tons of pictures and was looking for a fast scanner. This is not. I currently am uninstalling the software to try again.

I believe I had registered before. Would have been nice if you or Apple had warned/informed that Yosemite would have discombobulated the connection between the Mac and the scanner

All Negatives Very Blurry with Horrible Contrast
on December 6, 2014

It is not the source- my negatives are perfectly clean, crisp and colored. The film is flat. It is not damaged in any way. When viewed with a backlight, the negatives are fantastic.
It is not my computer. My screen produces HD images from all types of sources available online. The colors are true.
It is not the software- I've tried almost every combination of choices using the professional scan software option to capture an image. ALL are blurry and incapable of distinguishing well defined areas of the photo where there happens to be a high contrast. The imperfections are NOT remedied with post-scan processing software. The software masks them slightly.
The scanner simply cannot find the correct focal point for the image. It's just like a camera lens. Have you ever tried to photograph a flower up close and not adjusted the macro settings? The camera cannot produce the image without blurring- it cannot focus because it is too close. The same issue appears to be occurring with this scanner, but unfortunately, I do not have a macro setting to adjust.
I surmise the backlight is too dim as well. I cannot confirm because it shuts down when the scanner lid is slightly opened.
Only buy his scanner if you want quick images to post on facebook. This is not for a person attempting to capture their negatives digitally in a quality manner for databasing of your family moments. It will give you an image. It will not look like the picture you captured on film.

Great scanner but?

Scanner was easy to install and does a great job scanning prints and recognizing them. Big problem was that the ABBYY software crashed all Microsoft Office apps like Excel, Word and Outlook. As soon as I uninstalled that software the Office apps worked fine. Epson needs to either delete this software from the package or fix it so this does not happen.

Better than expected.

I have only had Epson scanners since 1994 and they always are great workhorses. My previous Perfection 4180 was working perfectly fine but I wanted to upgrade the resolution of the V600. I plugged it into my iMac with Lion and it popped up on the screen and ImageCapture was scanning within seconds. It is almost too good. I am scanning an old dog show magazine and the scanner picks up the ghost image of the back of the page! Great value and great Epson internet service AND it came with a full version of PS Elements 9! The scans are coming out better than the originals and I am thrilled. As I expected.
