This without doubt is the best scanner I have owned. Easy to set up and extremely easy to use.

Good for prints not for slides

If you are like me, you have tons of slides. The unit does not provide adequate digitized files for them. digital files of prints are good. I ended up buying a slide and film digitizer for my slides.

Great scanner - Short Life

Works great for normal use. Good B&W and color document scanning. However, only lasted 23 months. I would have expected more life for personal use. Buy one, but don't expect it to last. Local repair shops say they can't get parts or repair documentation. Pricey for a boat anchor.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great hardware, but...

My initial thoughts after only a few hours of use is that the scanner itself is top-notch. My biggest problem has been with the Photoshop Elements 9 software that came with the scanner and is needed if you want to do any kind of modification to the scans for slides/photos. Because the software comes on CD I am having a difficult time getting it to the laptop the scanner is connected to. The laptop has no cd/dvd drive so I am trying to copy the software from another computers' dvd drive to the laptop over the network. No luck yet. So initially, I give the overall package (scanner and software) only 4 stars.

Very Pleased

I have been using the Epson Perfection V600 photo scanner for a couple of days now and am very pleased with the results. The sole purpose for purchasing the product was to scan all of my non digital photos. I have tried other photo scanners and have been very unhappy with the results. This one is easy to use and I love having the ability to scan multiple photos at a time and the machine recognizes them as individual photos and saves them individually which really cuts down on time. Quality of the scanned images are great!

not completely installed yet...

Will need to call Epson Help Desk / Tech Support as the Adobe Photoshop 6 Elements CD did not install, although tried 2-3 times. I thought it might have been b/c I placed dashes between the serial # so I removed them the 2nd time, nope that didn't do it either. But was still able to scan a picture. So will have to resolve the Elements installation later so I can take full advantage of this product that I bought for myself for X-Mas !

Disappointed!

I am very disappointed with my scanner! This is a replacement for one I bought new that quit within a month and even your tech department couldn't get it to work. Then they sent this refurbished machine as a replacement. It worked for a short while and I worked with it and finally was able to get it to work with other programs (I.e. Word), but It will still not work with its own program. I have download the program several times, but never has helped.
I have an Epson color printer that I love, but have decided I won't buy another Epson product.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Initial observations

From the looks of it this scanner, although built more cheaply than my old warhorse the Epson 2450, has many neat features. The best is that I do have to suffer that"scanner is warming" up waste of time. It worked very well. The only thing that I do not understand is the slide holders. I find them useless and I had originally bought the 600 to scan slides. What can I say.
