Yes, I think this is a very good product for the money. As of this writing I have had only one issue with this device and that is that the document cover is a little hard to raise. That is the best way I can describe it. Other than that it has worked fine. I use this for personal use only and don't require the function of your more expensive devices.

I have been photographing Macro-photography of flowers for over 50 years. what could take me 5 hours in a darkroom now, with this Superb Epson 1430 printer takes me under an hour if that long. I prints up to 13x19 flawless color photographs that are immaculate. I also have an Epson 6oo scanner which is as flawless as my Epson printer... One "Caution"...!!!!
Never, EVER use other than Epson Ink...!!!
I tried that to save money and ruined my Epson Stylus Photo R340 printer.
Most Sincerely, Looney Tunes

I bought this scanner to replace a Perfection 1660 Photo. The 1660 worked perfectly with linux. I am using ubuntu 14.04 64-bit. I downloaded and installed iscan-gt-x820-bundle-1.0.0.x64.deb before plugging in the V600. I found the V600 scanner works with xsane and scanlite but only in 8-bit depth. This was a big disappointment. Usually Epson is well supported in linux. To work around the 16-bit issue I use VueScan, not a free or open source product. The software provided by Epson for linux is called iscan. Compared to the windows software Epson provides with the V600 iscan is very basic and not useful. Epson should provide the same level software for linux as they do for windows. The scanner itself is a good product. It makes less noise than the 1660. The scan times are fast. The lamp warms up fast. I scan a mix of prints and film. The prints have faded over time and scanning in 16-bit allows me to fix the color issues. For film scanning the ICE technology works well for remedying dust and scratches. ICE is slow so I don't always use it. I do not turn the scanner on and off, it sleeps when not used.
IF EPSON provided linux software as useful as their windows software I would give this scanner 5-stars. There are many good linux image editing programs like gimp, digiKam and darktable. Its too bad Epson provided such a basic scanner software as iscan for linux.

I've owned this two hours, scanned five things and the glass is already scratched. I generally love the Epson Perfections, and this is like the fifth one I've owned, but I'm really annoyed.

This flat bed works wonderfully, way above my expectations. What a pleasure to rescue my old negatives from storage. A real bargain.

I've finally found a reliable scanner that will scan photos, negatives and slides and create awesome digital pictures for uploading to the web or creating digital scrapbooks. Best ever! Thanks!

Better than what I had before

This scanner does much better than the scanner I used before. Unfortunately, scanners as a group are very low tech copy machines. Processing software can be good but the physical process is antiquated. Slides especially suffer. Slides are film mounted between cardboard which is thicker than the film itself. This means every slide is out of focus compared to prints. Why there couldn't be a slide focus feature seems puzzling. Just a knob to adjust focus would be nice. That might mean something more than just a surface glass for imaging the print, maybe a slot over the imaging mechanism on some sort of slide tray instead of the glass top. We are taking images of planets millions of miles away, but we can't scan a slide in focus yet. I think Epson could do it if they wanted to bad enough.
