This movie covers both sides of the governments fledgling attempts at controlling criminal masterminds that were controlling the minds of the depression era famished citizens. It showed some tolerance given to Dillinger, a "Robin Hood" type character (Depp), and the task for the bigger tha life lawman (Bale) that pursued him. Depp carefully crafts a human quality and face to the dark evil facet, countered by Bale's portrayal of good and crystalizes his resolve and dedication above and beyond to take down this heroic foe. What I feel the movie lacked in, was showing the true widespread plight of the times and the desperation of the common person. The control placed on them by thugs and criminals that took advantage of their plight and ruled their fears. Bale was the true hero in many minds of the time by my parents, not Depp. However, if the spin was that criminals take advantage of the poor and beaten down for their own personal gain, then that wouldn't fill theatre seats, would it!!!
What's great about it: Depp and Bale's true mastery of their craft.
What's not so great: Misguided consensus of the mindset of america.
I would recommend this to a friend!

johnny deep plays a great ganster. And i would recommend this movie to all my friends i even got it for my 79yr old mom to watch.
What's great about it: it's a ganster movie and johnny deep was great in this movie
What's not so great: I wish it was full screen

I am not going to waste your time on a plot synopsis, that is what IMDB is for; rather I will say that for a movie with no CGI this is still worthy of being purchased in Blue Ray over DVD. The audio and cinematography are so crisp and vivid that this flick need not be wasted in an inferior medium.
What's great about it: The plot is good, the story is notably accurate, the acting top-notch, and the sound is the best capturing of a BAR ever
I would recommend this to a friend!

Overall it was a decent movie. I expected a little more action than what was there but the story was good. Acting was pretty good. Sound quality was acceptable but noticed flickering when close up on striped clothing. Would recommend if you like gangster stories.
What's great about it: Acting was alright. Interesting story. Sound quality is good.
What's not so great: Picture quality wasn't very good when close up on striped clothing, it flickers. The plot was a little slow.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Terrible Digital Transfer

If you plan on buying this movie, get it on DVD. The money will only be wasted on the Bluray. 75% of the film is great, looks crisp. But the rest is very distorted, has bad banding, is pixelated and just looks like a rough cut that had no editing or digital work done. It must be a bad transfer to disc from the master or they just moved too fast to get this on the shelf and didn't care about quality.
p.s. The pics are examples of what it looks like. I don't have the tv that the pics are on, I have a Samsung 52 1080P 120hz bought in may and a panasonic bought 2 weeks ago. It hasn't happened on any other bluray or dvd film I've watched on them.
What's great about it: The movie itself is great. Acting, plot, all that
What's not so great: It has terrible break up and distortion throughout the entire film, very pixelated and bad banding
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
