"Brew" and "Steam" are reverse on the knob

I had an older model Mr. Coffee espresso machine that worked very well. It wasn't the top of the line model, maybe the older version of the Mr. Coffee Steam Espresso and Cappuccino Maker (ECM160 model). However, due to the age, and my son accidentally breaking the carafe, I felt it was time to replace it.
I bought the machine stated above, brought it home, and began to do the initial cleaning. When I turned the knob to "brew", I didn't see any water coming out of the portafilter, but instead, steam coming out of the frothing wand! I immediately turned the knob to off. Reading the instructions again, to make sure I did the steps correctly and made sure everything was secure, I turned the knob to "brew". Once again, steam began billowing out of the frothing wand. Turned it off again. I had a suspicion that maybe something was a bit backwards, so I turned the knob to "steam" and sure enough, espresso began to pour out.
I thought that we could live with the knob being reversed, but got to thinking if someone wanted to use it and didn't know about this issue, it could pose a potential hazard and someone could get burned.
Since I was going to have to return it anyway, we decided to make a cup of espresso to see how it did. Honestly, I think my older model worked better, as the espresso came out thicker and frothier, where this one seemed a little watered down for my liking - more of the consistency of strong coffee.
Its an okay espresso machine on a budget, but I may exchange this one and try the more higher end Mr. Coffee Pump Espresso Maker (ECMP50-RB) instead. After some research, come to find out the result I want for an espresso would come from a pump machine rather than steam.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Aluminum filter holder

The aluminum basket coating that holds the filter is breaking down after one wash in the dish washer and has a residue rubbing off on your hands! Who knows what that is!

Affordable and easy but disappointed in materials

I love how inexpensive and easy to use this machine is. One thing I have noticed is a strong plastic smell when brewing and what seems to be a slight plastic taste to the finished product. I came to this site to do some research into the components of the machine and was pleased to see that the water well is not plastic. HOWEVER, I am very disappointed to read that the plastic on the frothing wand is not BPA free. I'm pregnant and have been using this wand to froth my milk for the past week, and now I am concerned about the chemicals I have been ingesting, especially considering how hot it gets. Would it have been so hard to make that tiny part BPA free? I will try removing it and hope the machine still works. I am checking "would recommend to friend" but I would do so with the caveat that the frothing wand contains BPA.

I bought the Grandfather of this machine years ago. I was hoping to find one just like it. Fortunately they still make it only with some smart design changes but the nuts and bolts still the same quality parts! Good job Mr. Coffee!

I bought this product about 2 weeks ago and recently the milk frother has been sucking the milk in instead of frothing. Any reason as to why it is doing this and how can I fix it?

I got this espresso machine for Christmas and was super happy because it works really well and doesn't take too long. The only problem I've encountered is that on the very first day I owned it, the black piece on the milk steamer started cracking and a little chunk broke off. The steamer still worked but I could tell it wasn't the same. Today I noticed the crack has gotten larger, and I'm not sure what to do. The steamer doesn't work as well as it used to and makes a huge mess. I worked in a coffee shop so I know how to use an espresso machine, and I'm wanting to get this fixed or replaced.
I would recommend this to a friend!

You get what you pay for

I am on my second machine since Christmas. My first time using the first one the band on the pot snapped off. Returned it to the store no problem. Got another one, I thought I was just frothing it wrong so I don't really use it. Come to find out a piece in the frothing arm is missing (on the 2nd one) Don't have the receipt anymore so I guess I can't use it.
