Tremendous Value in this Expresso Machine

I have been a Starbucks everyday customer for years. Always the same drink: 4 shots of expresso over ice in a tall cup and half and half. I was easily spending ~ $90 / month. I decided to try this inexpensive machine just to see if it'd work for me. I've been using it everyday for three weeks now. I love it.
Things to perfect to get a great experience:
Buy fresh beans and grind them in the store to borderline expresso/turkish fineness
Make sure to tamp down the finely ground beans in the holder
Consistently fill the water chamber to the same depth to better get a regular time for brewing
I'd give it five stars but there was a very strange gluey substance in the water chamber upon the first few uses. I poured the luggielike thing out through the entrance with the cap removed. I think it was plugging up the water into the expresso holder.
I highly recommend cleaning and recleaning the chamber before you drink any expresso from the machine.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I purchased this machine to eliminate my coffee shop runs. However, I have tried multiple brands of coffee grinds, both espresso and regular blends, and I cannot pull a decent espresso shot. in addition, once the espresso brews, you need to use it right away as there is no hot plate to keep it warm. It comes out warm at best. I have barista experience and this machine does not give the espresso that velvety pull. It’s almost needing a tamper to compress the grinds, which it doesn’t have. I have used coconut milk for the steaming and that takes a good 3 mins or more. I have resorted back to drip coffee and hot coconut milk instead. I am not pleased with this machine. If I had saved the box, I’d return it in an instant. It’s to frustrating to deal with when trying to get out the door; I have also spent time on weekends trying to get a good drink from this machine and failed.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Makes little or no froth

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have had this particular machine for about a year and it has never made a good froth. My previous Mr. Coffee expreeo macine made great froth and I have tried everything I can think of to make froth with this machine.

Good value

This is my second one. You can’t beat it for the price. If you use good quality espresso it makes a better cup of coffee than the ones with the packets. We use a separate frother for better foam. It would be nice to be able to buy all replacement parts, however, as the plastic parts break easily. The handle on the carafe broke and we replaced that. However, then the handle on the filter holder broke, while the rest of the machine was fine. They do not sell replacement filter holders so we had to buy a whole new machine.
I would recommend this to a friend!
