Short life span

We had received one of these for a wedding gift. At first it was great. But after a couple months of minimal use the unit quit brewing and steaming all together. We took good care of machine, cleaning of tank and outside of brewer according to users guide. I had called customer service and described the problem. They had sent me a replacement unit, thank you. But after a few months the same problem happened.
The Mr. Coffee steam espresso & cappuccino maker just doesn't have the life span of more then a few months(minimal usage).
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Tastes Like .... Plastic.

I purchased this machine to replace another brand espresso maker (that I was very happy with but unfortunately it died on me) and this one... well, it makes espresso. It froths milk. But it doesn't make delicious espresso - everything tastes like plastic! I used the same espresso brand that I used with the other machine, and my sister even purchased some espresso for me while abroad in Italy - and it all tastes terrible. The first few batches I figured were because it was a new machine, but it's done it with every single batch I've made (and thrown out). Huge, Huge disappointment. Also - the cover to the tank is a weird shape and difficult to turn.

Does a great job for the price and size

This product features both an espresso maker, and a steamer for milk. It's a very small size, so it easily fits on a counter top, or tucks away for storage. For the price, it's a really good deal. It comes packaged nicely, and is easy to set-up. The design overall is nice, and makes the machine look more expensive than it really is. It has you run a pot full of water through the machine to help clean it out. However, it took three or four pots of water before a weird manufactured taste and smell is gone. Once it was clean, it was quite easy to use. You simply fill the machine with water, tighten the top cap, and then turn the knob to either "brew" or "steam". It takes the machine a couple of minutes to warm up, and then you get freshly brewed espresso. The espresso comes out pretty warm, but I would have preferred for it to be hot. The milk frother also works very well. It's not super fast, but once you get it going, it does very well. I do find the placement of the milk frother arm to be a bit awkward. You either need to turn the machine to the side, or have your arm at a weird angle. If the arm attached in a different spot, and was a bit further from the edge of the machine, it would make the overall design quite a lot better. The frother does work very well, and you are able to get heated milk with foam pretty quickly. The other suggestion I would make for improvement is some sort of way to display the water level in the machine. There is no way for you to tell how much water is left other than to pour more in and make sure the machine doesn't overflow. With this machine, you're not going to get perfect fancy coffee, but it does get the job done. For the price, it is a very good deal. I have used it quite a bit and have been experimenting with different latte recipes. I received this product as a free sample in exchange for my honest review.

Just ok

I ordered this hoping for a decent cup of cappuccino and to be honest, I didnt get it with this machine. The frother just didnt froth and it ended up being just your basic cup of coffee with cream.

Bought two - both leaked like crazy!!

I bought one several months ago. Near the end of brewing cycle, steam began to leak out like crazy, and pools of water formed everywhere (yes, everything was properly closed and sealed). I returned it, and tried another one as it was at a very good price and I hoped that the first unit was just a fluke. NO SUCH LUCK!! The second one did exactly the same thing - literally half the water leaked out!
Also, knobs and container top are in a stupid rounded shape that makes it very tough to hold onto, and the power cord is ridiculously short.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Poor handel

The shape of the handle and cap are very difficult to turn for folks with old hands. There shape leaves very little to grasp they are also to smooth with nothing to grip. I first tried model ECM20, it is just as bad. They do make good coffee. Redesign the knobs and then all is good.

Too time consuming

I was somewhat dissatisfied with this espresso maker. The instructions seem a little complicated and I had to read them several times. The espresso takes way longer to brew than expected and came out looking watered down. I had only put in enough water up to the 2 and then water to the steam line, but it brews too much so the espresso is weaker. It's difficult to steam and milk went everywhere, even when the steamer was fully submerged. It did a decent job at lightly foaming it for an espresso, but not enough foam for a cappuccino. Overall, this machine takes too much time. It seemed perfect for a "quick" latte, but it takes too long to brew.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
