This is a range I would love to love

...and although I like many of the features, a couple are troubling enough that I would not have bought this range had I known. But first, what I like about this range.
The large oven capacity. The five burner stove top; and yes you can use all five burners at once, especially nice during the holidays. Having only two grates to move to clean the stove top (at first they seems big and clunky, but now I see them as a time saver). The true continuous grate top for ease of moving hot pots on the stove.
Now the problems. First, in order to turn on the oven, one must press the "bake" button; then enter each number of the temperature, say 3-7-5; and then press the "start" button. For starters, I still forget to press that darned start button. Who designed this? Isn't it enough to tell the oven you want to bake (or broil) and then set the temperature? You have to also press a start button? It makes no intuitive sense. Designed by an engineer who doesn't work in a kitchen. Second, I've finally realized after over a year of ownership that sometimes, often, I press the "start" button, but the darned button is a little sticky and just doesn't always respond. I have to consciously press that start button to be sure it took and turned on the oven. I can't tell you how many dinners, big and small, have been delayed because the oven, which I thought I had pre-heated, never turned on.
Third, although I like the idea of five burners, the way GE accomplishes this in 30 inches is to make the stove top a bit wider than 30 inches. That is, the stove top itself hangs over the counter on the left and right side. Pretty clever, right? The problem is that the high power burner is on the left side and it heats up the cabinet that now partly hangs over the wider stove. My nice, and costly, white cabinet is turning yellow. And I suspect it's probably not all that safe.
It might be fine to use a stove like this in a new build, where you can protect the upper cabinets by making them wide of the edge of the stove top. But when you are replacing a 30 inch range anticipated by already installed cabinets, you will have this problem.
Then there are some minor things like lots and lots of places for food and debris to get caught--seams in the metal parts, for example. Again, I suspect this is the design of a lab engineer, without input from those who actually use a range like this day after day.
I hope this is helpful to prospective buyers, and to the GE engineers. Please, get more consumer input--nifty design, but in real life, not so much.

Great Stove

After a bit of a rough start with damage problems caused by the factory, GE covered the cost to fix and all is working wonderfully. This is a wonderful stove and expect it to last like the last one I have for over 20 years and still working when I installed the new one. Gave to friend and still working well.

Not happy with my new stove.

Just had the new stove installed last week at my cabin. Was ready to bake this weekend and the oven wouldn't get hot. Very disappointed. Now I'll have to set up a service call on a brand new stove. *sigh*
