Better than flossing, but probably not effective.

I bought this a few weeks ago and thought it would be better. The stream is not powerful enough on high, and it also runs out of water quickly. I usually fill it up 3-4 times per use. I haven't noticed a difference in my teeth or gums either.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This model is intentionally designed smaller for travel and for those that have little counter space. It sounds like a counter top model would be a better fit for you. They have much larger reservoirs and a broader pressure range. We do offer a 30 day money back guarantee.
