Battery Life Issue
on July 22, 2023
Posted by: VeeZee
I bought this model WP450 about 18 months ago. Within a year of ownership, I noticed that the battery started undercharging, and even required a new charge after 4-5 uses. Because there is no battery charge light indicator, I thought this may be normal. The problem gradually worsened and now it wont hold a charge at all. I love the portable nature of the unit and it meets my needs, but I don't want to spend that much money on another one if it's going to die on me in such a short period of time. I expect at least 3 yrs out of it. My electric tooth brushes have lasted more than 5 yrs (only have to change heads)! My dilemma is, do I buy the same model (which I really like) or go for an off brand for.less money? I don't want to have to replace it again next year! I can't find whether waterpik has improved battery life. It has a NiMH battery. I wonder if Lithium batteries hold charge better and have longer lives????
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is my first water flosser/irrigator. I think it has an appropriate footprint on the sinktop, sufficient pressure, works very well. Overall, I am very pleased.
Things that keep it from a 5-star: Wish that the unit came with a tip storage case and at least one pik pocket tip, the latter being essential to me to get the most out of the unit.
Definitely want to keep the unit over the sink when using, the reservoir is not water tight and will leak during operation.
I went online and found some good videos on how to use this. A couple were by a dentist, and he started by advising, "Don't use it the way WaterPik shows you to use it." The way WaterPik recommends using this is AWFULLY MESSY. Expect to get soaked and to soak your sinktop. The way the dentist recommended is to keep your pips pursed around it, and then let all the water in your mouth go into your sink only when your mouth fills up. This is still messy, but a lot LESS messy than how WaterPik says to use it. I got this because my dentist recommended it, and said they were now feeling this is superior to flossing with floss. On the internet, I did not find clear superiority, so, time-will-tell. I have gotten used to using it now, and have gotten better at it. To do my whole mouth, I have to fill it three times. Not a problem, but I had no room to place a tank model on my sink.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Hello PaulW - We are sorry you found the product messy to use. There is definitely a trick to it. We have found the best advice we can give is to place the flosser in your mouth prior to turning it on, then make sure you look down into your sink as you go; keep your mouth slightly open so water can drain into the sink.
I've been using this unit for almost 3 weeks now. It seems to have plenty of power. I can feel the the water pulses sharply on my gums or tongue. the battery is lasting about a week when used daily. This unit came with a couple of different tips which I haven't tried yet. I like it and I would recommend it.
Not as good as my first one. Doesn’t remove plaque.
