Yes, you can use a laptop SATA hard drive. There are videos on YouTube on how to do it. Back up your save data and anything else to a portable hard drive, then you can retore it after you have formatted the new drive.

The PS3 should use any laptop (2.5") SATA disk drive. Understand upon replacing the drive you will have to format the disk using the format tool in the settings.

The old PS3's that you see on the internet are actually returned products that the customers had problems with, but thats no reason to not buy them because they are tested to make sure they work properly and are restored like new.

i would say get the 250GB one because you are paying more for the cord it comes with for blu-ray. you can buy it separate for a cheaper price

Personaly I would go with the 250GB PS3, it won't have any problems with memory, it has the Sony PlayStation Network for free, you still have $50 for HDMI cables or a game. The 120GB system you can buy for $299 and HDMI cables are only $70 so you end up losing money. That is just my opinion.

You'll have to go back a generation or 2. Your best bet is the 20GB model or the 60 GB NTSC Model. As those 2 models have the EE (Emotion Engine) built in. This means it's a hardware approach to the PS2 so you're plenty fine there. Also, the Sony PS3 - 80 Gig Model uses software emulation (slower, but should hopefully work for 90% of the PS2 Games). As sony puts it.

Because the playstation has huge updates that are about 300-400mb also the game demos and downloadable games are about the same. Also the movies you may download of the PSN are about 2gb. So in other words you need all of this space. 1Gb isn't enough these days.

Simply buy Sony's inexpensive USB PS2 memory card reader, then use the Data Transfer/Backup Utility. They are no longer made, but can be bought used for under ten bucks.

(Of course, this assumes that you have one of the increasingly rare PS3s that can play PS2 games.)

IS it the new PS3? if so there are four factors I can think of either your video cable is bad, or you dont have it plugged in all the way. Or the video output is bad or the tv video input is bad

No the new PS3's are not backwords compatible with PS2 games. All hardware and software emulation of the PS2 hardware has been removed for sometime now. a good site for PS3 info is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ps3

My PS3 has nothing around it, and is pretty much out in the open(and not on a carpet). If yours is in an in closed space you might need one to move that air around.

No, none of the new slim PS3's play PS2 games. There is no such thing as a "PS2 system file" that let's you play those games, nor are there any PS2 games available to download. If you want backwards compatibility, then you have to buy an older "fat" PS3 60 gig, but those are more expensive and harder to find used.

Sort of...you can download the PS2 system files for the PS3, which will work on any PS3 except the 40GB version. Not all games work with this though, and the games have to be copied to the hard drive, which will eat up your space (which is probably not an issue if you go for the 250GB slim...)
