No, none of the new slim PS3's play PS2 games. There is no such thing as a "PS2 system file" that let's you play those games, nor are there any PS2 games available to download. If you want backwards compatibility, then you have to buy an older "fat" PS3 60 gig, but those are more expensive and harder to find used.

Sort of...you can download the PS2 system files for the PS3, which will work on any PS3 except the 40GB version. Not all games work with this though, and the games have to be copied to the hard drive, which will eat up your space (which is probably not an issue if you go for the 250GB slim...)

I have never had overheating issues.

I keep my ps3 in a well-ventilated, open area, however I have friends who do just the opposite without any trouble.

The internal fan is a beast! (Google Image a picture of it, it is huge) But it somehow is extremely quiet!

My xbox360 fan is extremely loud...

Yes, however, if you keep it in an open area, away from direct sunlight and nothing obstructing the vents, it will be fine.

No. Even the models that at one time supported ps2 titles, recent firmware upgrades all but totally make the idea of backwards compatability useless.

It still does play ps1 games but current firmware no longer supports making back up copies of ps1 disks to the ps3's hard drive. You can d/l ps1 classic games from the playstation network for a nominal price for each game and they will also run on your psp portable.

Different models of the Sony PS3 support different levels of backwards compatability with Sony PS2 games.

Sony PS3 - 20GB and 60GB NTSC Model

The 20 gig and 60 gig NTSC models of the Sony PS3 are the absolute best models for backwards compatibility with the Sony PS2.

These models contain PS2 circuitry in hardware. Each of these units contains a full PS2 Emotion Engine (EE).

Unfortunately, this hardware-based approach was very expensive and Sony discontinued the 60 gig PS3 after a very short time.
Sony PS3 - 40 Gig Model

The 40 gig model of the Sony PS3 does not support any backwards compatibility with the PS2.

However, the 40 gig model still maintains full backwards compatibility with the Sony PS1.
Sony PS3 - 80 Gig Model and 60GB PAL Model

The 80 gig Sony PS3 supports PS2 games through software emulation.

The success of this emulation was poor at first, but Sony has improved it with several generations of firmware upgrades.

If you are experiencing difficulties with PS2 emulation, it is recommended that you upgrade to the latest firmware.

The 60GB PAL model also utilizes software emulation.

Check PS2 Game Compatability

Sony provides a Playstation 3 Backwards Compatibility Status database which enables you to find the current status of backwards compatibility for specific video games:

Yes.

This can be done using the red/white/yellow cables or an HDMI.

HDMI is preferred due to better sound quality.

No the ps3 has it's own internet connection, so as long as you have wireless at home or you hook it to your router with a network cable, netflix will come direct to the ps3.

Yes, fully 1080p for both game and Blu-ray content. Make sure you purchase an HDMI cable that supports full 1080p and transfers at leats 10.2 GBps if you want the best experience. You don't have to go Monster, but you do have to pay a little.

They're largely sold out, everywhere. I'm running into the same problem. I've heard estimates for delivery anywhere from a week to a month, depending on where you're looking. I do think that you can buy directly from the Sony Style website, but I was less than impressed with their shipping costs. There are also mutiple bidding sites advertising PS3 120gb Slim for auction...if you're waiting out Best Buy, though, they're usually pretty quick. I'd bet on about a week in your area.

Yes, just use HDMI or component cables to connect to the tv. Any other way might not work, but since I don't have a PS3 yet, I can't say for certain.

You will also probably need to get a new power supply over there for it because of the difference in voltage, unless the one you have is rated 110V-240V. Voltage steppers, converters and the like don't work that well and can damage sensitive electronics, so be careful.

Hope your trip goes well!

Yes good luck. Mine also crashed and I have been waiting for over a month to get mine replaced. All I keep getting told is call back on Wednesdays and Fridays because that is when they get shipments at my bestbuy anyway, so far no luck. I just recently got told MAYBE by the end of the month or beginning of next month. So we shall see, I won't hold my breath though. GOOD LUCK TO US ALL
