Question

which manufacturer ha the shotest wash cycle

It appears that many dishwashers today are energy efficent and use a minimum amount of water to wash. Which unit has the shortest wash cycle time in washing dishes? Is there any residential dishwasher that is simillar to a commercial unit, like a Hobart, that has a wash cycle of 3 minutes.

Bosch has a "rinse and hold" cycle, that is almost that short. I doubt that you will find one that will run a cycle that short. They still have to get all the soap off the dishes.

Looking at Consumer Report's Aug 2010 dishwasher review, the shortest cycle time is 110 minutes, shared by several manufacturers. Several other models have cycle times of 115 minutes and 120 minutes. At the high end is a whopping 180 minutes. Thus, decibel level during operation is important. (Bosch, KitchenAid, Asko and Kenmore each had one model that scored the best in the noise category.) But back to your question, it does not appear that there are any residential models that have short wash times remotely comparable to commercial units, which I believe are actually sanitizers, not washers.

Question

Scratches

I'm considering a diswasher with a stainless steel interior. What happens if it gets scratched? Will it rust? If so what can be done about it?

A stainless steel tub will not rust. Just be a little careful about how you load the dishwasher. They generally are built to take a little bit of abuse. Bosch dishwashers have a plastic bottom, even though the top and sides are stainless. The racks on a lot of dishwashers are coated with nylon, to prevent scratching.

It may get scratched but it will not rust because the stainless finish is not a top ;ayer but rather a solid material to the core. It can only get scratched if it is rubbed against a harder material, such as titanium or perhaps another stainless steel item. You can prevent scratches by placing such items away from the interior walls, towards the center of the trays.

Question

Dishwasher confusion...help!!!!

After 24 years with a my Whirlpool dishwasher, I am going to have to replace this model soon. I am finding that so many dishwashers have the 24" Tall Tub feature BUT this feature causes the door of the dishwasher to drop lower to the floor than older models. I am finding this lower door position makes loading and unloading the dishwasher difficult. You might as well sit on the floor to load the dishes as it would be easier on your back. My 2nd concern is that I have to purchase an almond/bisque front as all of my appliances are still in this color (and I prefer this color so not willing to change on this). I would like to purchase a quiet dishwaher as you know 24 years ago, this feature was not even available. Price is not as critical as the concerns listed above. Can you please advise what direction to focus on as I am totally confused and can not seem to locate a model or style that I am very excited to purchase.

I look forward to hearing back your response.

Thanks!
Julie

The tall tub feature does add space inside the dishwasher, but yes the door is lower. The demand for the tall tub is greater than the standard tub, but I have included the rare exception. Notice it is 64 decibels, so its still loud, but probably a little quieter than 24 years ago. Special order means shipping costs may apply, but you get the style you want without compramising on the list you gave. Shipping costs vary by location, but should be around $69.

Hi Julie,

I will try to help you. There are dishwashers out there which are not the "tall tub" models. I just bought a tall tub and I do not like it. There still are bisque colored dishwashers available. I thought that I was being thorough in my research, but I was not. The model I bought has the silverware basket way at the back of the bottom rack. You have to pull out the rack, each time you want to put a knife, spoon, etc. in it. You may also want to check the rack to make sure that you will be able to load it easily. Don't be afraid to ask questions, and take your time with your purchase. Good luck. :-)

Question

What brand dishwasher runs for the shortest time to wash the dishes?

We have an LG dishwasher that has recently quit working and will be purchasing a new dishwasher. The LG took 2 hours to run a normal cycle and we want to get a dishwasher that takes MUCH less time to run! Which brand and model takes the least time to complete a normal cycle?

I just purchased a Bosch with a feature called EcoSense. As I understand it a sensor monitors the water and adjusts the time by the cleanliness of the water. After a month of use it seems to run for less than an hour, even though it starts out at 128 minutes.

The Whirlpool Quiet Partner II also takes about two hours to comoplete its wash cycle, but I've never seen dishes so clean! It also has a one-hour cycle that you can choose if you are in a hurry. It costs only $299 and does a MUCH better job than any other dishwasher I have ever used. Hope this helps.

I've tried a few, including the newer LGs, and have found that the washers that take longer (~2 hrs) clean much more thoroughly than quick washers (1 hr or less). The easiest way to test this is to eat a plate of rice, and then see how well the dishwasher cleans the plate using different models or cycle times. You'll notice that in most cases, the rice will be completely cleaned off the plate in just under 2 hours.

Yes we do! It is a "special order" so you would need to visit you local Best Buy to get an ETA on the perspective date. Please keep in mind that the special order fee is $69.99 and that is because it is coming straight from the vendor by J.B. Hunt.

Yes you can! You have two installation options. You may either have the unit installed for $119.99 or, if you would like to do a garbage disposal along with it, it would be $189.99 plus the cost of the disposal.
As for delivery/installation time frames they do differ. If you are only purchasing a dishwasher then the installer will bring it out and you can perhaps have the delivery earlier, of course depending on the installers schedule. If you are buying other appliances, then the delivery team will bring the unit, according to zipcode, and the installation will take place the following day.

Unfortunately, the only way for us to get a hold of dishwasher parts is through our Geek Squad and it would require an agent to come to the home and order it.
