Yes. It's got an RF antenna input. This is how I watched for 1 day while waiting to install HDTV.

If you have put the batteries in the remote and still no sound on the unit. Take it back back to Best Buy. Hopefully you brought the geek squad insurance.

The response time does seem slightly better overall than my other TVs,
but here is still a definite lag when powering up or changing channels.

The TV will display the signal it receives. I recommend consulting your cable provider for details about your service and compatibility with TVs if you choose not to use a box.

Yes that is the correct resolution of the monitor, Full HD Quality.

HDMI gives best picture, then USB, and so on.

You should be able to find a code for Dynex in your remote control user manual. If not, try the suggested codes for the following brands: Orion, Emerson, Memorex, Sansui, Sylvania, or Zenith. Alternatively, you may use your universal remote control's scan or learning feature to find a working code.
