There is no option to create or change a playlist on the device. You'll have to connect it to a PC for that. Most Windows music software can create the playlists, including the basic Windows Media player.

There's no external speaker. You would have to buy some small external speakers or a generic MP3 player docking station - not one made for an iPod - be sure to check that. Go to a BB store if you can to check what's available - in most of them you can test it with your player if you bring it with you!

Not sure about Japan, but I've used it in France with no problems. I think the radio frequencies used for FM are generally the same everywhere. It's not an HD radio, but there aren't many of those available in portable devices.

Nope, you'll need to buy an armband or generic clip. The previous generation of iPod nano "gum stick" design is very close - check closely.

No, there is no clip. My husband, daughter, and I each have one and we put it in our pockets. I can't even feel it in there and it has a "hold" switch to prevent hitting any buttons.

Thank you for your post.
The Sony MP3 player is a drag and drop device. You simply grab the song you want and drag to the device icon and drop it. It will then be on your player and ready for use.
