We bought a wireless mouse to use with our laptop. Got the mouse at Best Buy when we got the computer. Works really good and was pretty cheap - less than 10 dollars. I don't know about a wired mouse.

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in the Inspiron 15 7000 laptop! As it turns out, this laptop does not come with an optical drive. As stated in the online page for this laptop:

"Note: Optical drive not included
Compatible with optional external recordable CD/DVD drives (not included)."

The Inspiron 17 7000 does come with a built-in optical drive. If you need to load a DVD onto this laptop, I recommend using an external DVD player or copying the contents from the DVD onto a USB key, from another computer.

Hope this helps!

It is possible to get your files off the old hard drive. Not sure what the Geek Squad would charge for this. I have used a local computer guy to do this for me in the past and it ran around $75.00. Hope this helps some.

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in the Inspiron 15 (7537) laptop! I work for Dell and not for Best Buy's Geek Squad, but I can point you where you can find an answer to your question. I recommend calling 1-800-GEEKSQUAD or chatting online with a Geek Squad agent:

Hope this helps!

Question

Upgrading (or replacing)

Can users upgrade the memory and/or the hard drive themselves? Also, is the battery user replaceable? If not, is it because replacing a battery on this model requires training and tools (i.e., something other than a screw driver) that most users do not have. Or, is it that Dell does not want users accessing the laptop internals, while the laptop is under warranty?

Thanks

I would suggest you download the manual for this laptop. It shows very clearly how to make upgrades including battery, memory and HD.

Here's the url: ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_laptop/esuprt_inspiron_laptop/inspiron-15-7537_Owner%27s%20Manual_en-us.pdf

answer 2
Hello,

Dell considers things like memory, hard drives and batteries (on most systems) to be user-replaceable. On this Inspiron 15 7000, all three parts are pretty easy to replace/upgrade. All three parts are located under a door on the bottom of the laptop. Only certain systems that are sealed up (due to weight and size restraints) are considered factory upgrades. The hard drive replacement would be the trickiest but still easy, since all you have to do is swap out the chassis that holds the drive to the laptop.
Your warranty should remain intact but if you have any issues with the laptop after doing your own upgrades and a Dell technician decides that your new part is what is causing your specific problem, that repair would not be covered under the Dell warranty. There is a Service Manual on Dell's website that walks you through all of the upgrade procedures:

http://www.dell.com/support/Manuals/us/en/19/Product/inspiron-15-7537

Hope this helps!

Unfortunately, Windows 7 is becoming harder and harder to come by. This computer does not available with /Windows 7. if you can find a copy, you can install the operating system though I do not recommend it. Windows 8 can be a bit of a challenge at first but hang in there and you will get it. Half the fun of Windows 8 is the touch screen.

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in the Inspiron 15 7000 laptop! As it turns out, this laptop only ships with Windows 8 operating systems. You can try to install your own copy of Windows 7 on this unit but since Dell does not provide Win 7 drivers for this laptop, completing the installation might be impossible.

Hope this helps!
