Yes, you can connect this monitor to your laptop via VGA, DVI or HDMI, depending on your laptop's video output(s). Older laptops (like my 10-year old one) have at least a VGA output; newer ones also have DVI and HDMI outputs in order to connect to LCD/LED TVs and monitors. Most LCD/LED TVs advertise having VGA and HDMI inputs; monitors also include DVI input for compatibility with newer computers. The HP Pavilion 27" LED HD Monitor comes packaged with both VGA and DVI cables, and HDMI cables are available at any electronics store.

As long as your Notebook has a DVI-D, HDMI and VGA, you should not have any problems, but If your notebook is not an HP I cannot guarantee compatibility.

They're standard length cords (DVI and VGA). I didn't measure, but I think the standard length is 6 feet.

Yes, assuming your specific MAC as VGA, DVI or HDMI outputs; the HP Pavilion 27" LED HD monitor accepts any of these three widely accepted video inputs. My family member views his MAC Air and MAC Mini on his LED SmartTV via HDMI cables; plugging into this monitor would be no different.

Question

What type of screen does it have?

tn, tft, etc..... it would be great to list it for all of your monitors. Makes it much easier to choose. I think knowing the technology of the screen itself is very important.

There is no headphone port from the monitor. You would connect your headphones via the port in your PC.

For this particular monitor, it is only used for video purposes. Some monitors have speakers in them, however they are only used to input audio and listen through the speakers. If you wish to use your headphones with your computer, you would need to plug them in via the headphone jack on your computer.

Yes. Although if you're using it for console gaming I'd recommend something bigger, at least if you're using it from a couch. If you plan to be relatively close to the screen, however, like in a college dorm room, this is perfect. You'll need to get an HDMI cord separately.

Whether your computer is capable of 1080p depends on your graphics card. Unless you computer is very old and/or was VERY cheap, it should be able to do 1080p. VGA, however, does not support 1080p. To get the max resolution, you will need either a DVI or an HDMI cord.

This monitor includes a VGA port and is compatible with Windows XP, so it should work fine with your computer. Since HP does not test or support third-party products, I am unable to provide a more specific answer.
