There is no guest feature for the N300 router. The Kindle is compatible with and will connect to the Belkin N300 router as long as you enter in the correct wifi password that is supplied with the rotuer.

Question

How far does the wireless signal reach?

I currently have an issue with my wireless router reaching the upstairs of my home with a strong enough signal to adequately use on my PS3. It is registering only 45% signal strength if any at all and times out before it can register the changes to the network connection. So I am looking to replace it. I am looking at several of the Belkin routers. Unfortunately the modems are incompatible with my cable provider so I am stuck with routers only. So if another item would better fit my needs, please let me know. I am running on a motorola SB5100 modem.

Jump to the 600 if the linear distance is greater than 40 feet from where the router is to the ps3, floors and walls can cause it to drop and the ps3 is finicky about that

Question

Linus Operating Software

Before I get too involved in installing your N300 router, you say I do not need to load the set-up software if my computer does not use Windows, etc. Who, then, will guide me through the set-up? Belkin? My PC tech support? I'm physically handicapped a a bit unsure of the ease of this set-up.

If you're on Linux you shouldn't need help from anyone. Just go to he IP address in your browser once everything is hooked and you are directly connected by Ethernet cable. You can setup everything up manually there

Well without a modem you won't have internet, just a wireless peer to peer network. Power up the router, plug in an Ethernet cable to you computer, and go the IP address of the router in order to setup a name and password

answer 2
Assuming that you have a wired Internet connection to your computer, just unplug the Ethernet/Internet cable from the back of your computer and plug it into the jack on the wi-fi router that's labelled "Uplink" or "Modem" or "Internet". Then connect a new cable from your computer to any one of the other jacks on the wi-fi router.
If you only have wi-fi access, you need a different device: a wi-fi acces point. That kind of device will allow you to use the wi-fi signal to connect devices that need a wired connection.

The Belkin N300 router requires some form of ethernet connection for its internet access. Either a connection from a modem or another router will work.

Yes, but it depends. The provider should not make any difference as long as the modem is compatible. Which it is almost certainly is. Just make sure to clone the MAC address once you have it set up so that the modem and the ISP sees the router as a "friend" instead of foreign. If all else fails, keep the receipt.

Question

Can this router be used as a wireless repeater?

We have an existing Netopia 3347NWG wireless router that provides good signal strength to half of our building, but I'd like to inexpensively expand it's range to pick up the rest of our building. I was hoping to place a wireless repeater in a location to provide signal to the areas that currently are out of range for the Netopia router.

Basically: No. For not much more it would be better to just go for a dedicated wireless repeater. You could possibly set this up to be a repeater if you had a separate receiver for the wireless signal, a small computer as a control unit or even a raspberry pi, and third party firmware installed on the router to expand the capabilities. Long story short: it would be difficult, prone to malfunction, wouldn't save you much, but is technically possible.
