probably because there is no audio output through the mini display port. the hdmi connection in this case is only transmitting video. you may need to do a separate audio connection from your audio jack.

On a Mac:

1. Go to System Preferences

2. Go to the "Sound" section (shaped like a speaker)

3. Click on the "Output" subsection at the top of the page

4. Select whichever device you want to use for your audio output

I also couldn't get it to work at first, but I figured it out. Go under audio and select HDMI. It should work then. If it doesn't work stop the movie, and select HDMI before you play the movie, then start the movie and it should work. At least thats what worked for me on my mac. Hope this helps.

This adapter won't work for audio, it is strictly for video only. If you want one that has both video and audio together, check out monoprice.com for that specific cable adapter

Make sure your Mac detects your TV. It sometimes takes time for it to recognize it or change to another HDMI connection. I had the same problem and then I connected to another HDMI. Not sure why that worked but it did. Also make sure you Mac make allows for audio stream through HDMI. Check internet and youtube for this.

Question

Works for Some; Not on Other

I can use this product to connect my new Macbook Pro to a couple of TVs in my home but it just does not seem to want to work with my Mitsubishi 65" rear projections screen TV (which is HDMI compatible). I have tried different HDMI cords, different ports on the TV that work with other products but nothing seems to get the Macbook to recognize the TV. Any ideas?

I can't say for certain whether this will work, but try using a mini-to-VGA connection from your Mac laptop to your TV. For me, one TV "reads" the Mac signal as analog (VGA) and another TV "reads" the Mac signal as HDMI.

Check to see if your MacBook Pro 7" year and make have audio and video through the mini-display port. I believe you can check on the internet at (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241)
I have a 2011 iMac Desktop and it works great with my Plasma HDTV.
Lots of free content on the Internet that is viewable on HDTV.

Don't buy it. The quality is so poor you will end up returning it. Buy the Apple DVI version if you can.

Sounds like the Adapter Shorted Out. This can happen for a number of reasons that all don't have to do with the Manufacturer. Regardless, I'd Exchange it.

We would need to know more details to fully answer your question. Can you provide more details? Are you not seeing any power/lights, etc? Have you ensured it is securely connected? If you still experience issues, I would recommend bringing it and the receipt back to the place of purchase to pursue warranty options. If you have any issues at the store, then give Rocketfish Support a call at 1-800-620-2790 from 7am CST-12am CST for assistance.

Only if you have a Mac with mini display listed as M-DP v.1.2. It will produce a 1080p3d image if you use a HDMI 1.4 cable.

Not possible via an adapter. You would have to use an external 3d bluray player and use airplay to mirror the image to your tv. there is software you can buy elsewhere that will convert the display image but it will not transfer through the mini display port.

Just tried it on my Surface Pro 128G. (2 weeks old.)
Two TV sets tried.
Sony 50 inch. 1080P. One year old.
Sony 32 inch. Six months old.
Both did not work.
Monitors light up the HDMI port I am plugged into, (setup screen.) but nothing is displayed. Rebooted the Surface while connected. Turned on and off the monitor while connected. Tried Duplicate and Second screen only modes.
