In the Android Market you will find Skype for Android Phones, this will work with the Thrive but there is no video support to date. I suggest getting earphones with an inline mic for best possible conversation quality as it is not optimized for speaker built-in mic use either.

The internal memory is not upgradeable. If and when Skype has an Android app you will be able to use Skype on the Thrive Tablet.

No. However, if you buy a 3G wireless hub (like Virgin Mobile's mifi2200) you can establish a wireless connection with that.

I use a USB cable to transfer to the SD Card in a directory called movies. Play back depends on the CODEC format, I use RealFox BluRay Ripper with no problems.

I have yet to find a video that I could not find a player for, if the default video player does not work, that there is usually some other player on the market that will. Just do a google search for "android player .(extension)".

The camera on the Thrive, as in most tablets and phones, has a prime lens (meaning it is fixed and does not zoom), however digital zoom up to 5x is available.

Both front and back cameras have 8x digital zoom. Optical zoom isn't practical on a tablet since you'd have to have multiple glass lenses moving within the thickness of the tablet.

I believe I saw AGPS mentioned, if that is the case it's not real GPS, it's mimicked GPS by extrapolating known wifi locations, etc. and may not operate as well\or at all outside of metropolitan areas.

The Toshiba Thrive info sheet linked on the manufacturer website [http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/product/pdf_files/detailed_specs/tablets/thrive_AT105-T1016.pdf] indicates it has a GPS and digital compass ("Sensors and Location" section of link) and includes the Google Maps and navigation software preloaded.

I'm not sure what you are referring to. It comes with built-in WiFi and a full size USB port so if you're cell provider has a USB modem that is compatible with Android 3.1 you can use the USB card.

Question

Why no gorilla glass?

Not sure why the Toshiba Thrive does not have gorilla glass. That means an additional $20 for a screen protector to protect the most sensitive area of the tablet. And then $20 more each time you have to replace it.

SD Card vs Built-in memory

What is the advantage of buying more expensive Thrive model with a bigger built-in memory over buying the cheaper 8g model and use the external SD Card to expand the memory storage?

Depending on the speed of the SDHC card, performance when accessing files from the SDHC card will be slower than acceessing the same files from internal storage. In my mind the extra money for the larger capacity internal storage is well worth the expense. The SDHC slot is really better used as back-up storage as opposed to primary storage for frequently accessed files.

It completely depends on how you intend to use the tablet. You can definitely use the SD card slot to expand the memory. The advantage of having more built-in memory is you don't have to have an SD card to carry around with you and you can also expand the memory even more when you have more built-in memory.
