The RPM is 7200RPM. Don't confuse it with its older model, "U46E-BAL5."

P.S. It does say the RPM in the OVERVIEW in the PRODUCT FEATURES section.

Question

Product description incorrect.

Product Features
•Intel® Core™ i7-2620M processor
Features a 4MB L3 cache and 2.7GHz processor speed with Turbo Boost up to 3.4GHz.
•Intel® Core™ i7 processor
Features 8-way processing for ultimate smart performance. Intel® Turbo Boost Technology delivers extra performance when you need it and increased energy efficiency when you don't."

How come 2 cores come with 8-way processing ? and in bestbuy website "specifications" posted 750GB HDD @ 7200RPM and Asus claim only 5400 rpm?

You're correct. The CPU is dual core with up to 4 threads so 4-way processing. However, the hard drive is 7200 RPM.

Got it wrong the first time so I had to make things right. So many people thought they got the 8-way wrong so I had to find the specks because other sites had 8-way as well so I found the answer here, "http://ark.intel.com/products/52231/Intel-Core-i7-2620M-Processor-(4M-Cache-2_70-GHz)."

It is a 2nd Gen Intel® Core™ i7-2620M processor- dual core 4-way.

answer 3
This CPU is a dual-core, multi-threaded cpu. So it shows up as 4 virtual cpu's, not 8. So that is incorrect in Best Buy's description. The hard drive is Seagate's Momentus ST9750420AS, which IS a 7200 RPM drive.

answer 4
Both the 4-way processor and the the 5400RPM are incorrect. The answer in the first question saying the RPM is 5400RPM was a mistake, that is the RPM of the OLDER model, "U46E-BAL5," this model's, "U46E-BAL6," RPM is 7200RPM. People are also confusing that said model's, "U46E-BAL5," 4-way processor for this model's, "U46E-BAL6," 8-way processor.

In short, this model's RPM is 7200RPM and it has an 8-way processor.

Look at the older model and see for yorself. "Asus - Laptop / Intel® Core™ i5 Processor / 14" Display / 8GB Memory / 750GB Hard Drive - Platinum."

Well older games (2010 and back) should run just fine on low-high (depending on the game). Newer games like crysis 2 will chug and have very low framerates but still possibly playable. Since the core i7 2620m has one of the faster version of the hd 3000gpu it will outperform any of the mobile core i5's in cpu and gaming performance.

Probably not. This uses the Intel CPU's built in graphics capability. It works, but is about 6X slower than a dedicated graphics card in a more expensive laptop.

It depends on the level of gaming you want to do. The newest games with the highest graphical requirements aren't meant to be played on a laptop with UMA graphics, however, most games you will be able to play on this laptop as long as you tweak the game's graphic's settings and details.

Question

How compatible is this computer with CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor2011? In other words, will the 3-D imaging get choppy due to poor graphics?

As an engineering student, it's hard to find a laptop that meshes well with the high graphics and processing demand of CAD software. How compatible would this laptop be with a program like that?

You could run Autodesk Inventor but using a system with integrated graphics isn't recommended for these types of applications since a discrete graphics card operating at a higher frequency will allow for faster rendering and modifying of 3D models.

I telephoned Asus Support a few weeks ago regarding this same question as I was taking the laptop to Geneva, Switzerland and they asserted categorically that there was NO need for a converter (the laptop is dual-voltage) but that I would need an adapter plug for Switzerland. They also referred me to the Asus website for confirmation of this and indeed, the website confirmed that the laptop was dual-voltage i.e. can be used for both 110V and 220V.

While this computer does not have a discrete graphics card, the UMA video chip while not optimized for gaming is optimized for speed and accuracy with decoding/encoding/editing video using execution engines from the integrated video. You should not have any problems editing HD video with this laptop.
