I just wanted to get back to those interested. I found and ordered the cable below (AA-AV1N12B/US from www.shopblt.com) and it connects an external VGA monitor just fine and works great. I set it at a resolution of 1280 x 1024 on an 4:3 ratio 18 inch monitor.

My apologies about the information below. It does not apply to the Best Buy version of the NP700. That graphics card is the HD 6490M and I cannot seem to find similar information from the AMD website.

Yes you can but if want the full benefits of your 2560 x 1440 display you're gonna lose a lot of that resolution. The video graphics max out at 1600 x 900.

I'm sorry for the confusion; but from the available, the NP700Z5B-W01UB will not offer a Display Port connection.

Question

Gaming

Someone below had asked if this machine could play BF3, someone said it played Skyrim on high and then someone made a general statement that this machine can't play games, though it does have a dedicated video card.

I played with it in the store and found you have to select apps to run on the ATI card, which is the dedicated card. Anyone try playing any of the latest games on this while changing that setting? I have a new laptop that has internal graphics which isn't the best and was thinking of switching to this Samsung. Thanks!

I ended up taking the HP backg and picked up this laptop. AMAZING. I love it. I installed Star Wars The Old Republic and set it to run in high performance (makes it run on the ATI card) and it ran on high settings and looked amazing. Thanks!

I have had no issues playing games on it. I have been able to play games like Civilization V, Borderlands, World of Warcraft, and Fallout New Vegas. Unfortunately I do not own Skyrim or BF3 so I'm not sure on those specifically.

Nope. Not required, esp since not all areas have WiMax support. It will support Wireless N, but only on a 2.4ghz signal and not the stronger 5ghz.

Question

back-lit keyboard, bluetooth, 7200rpm drive, 8gb express cache

I've just read in the Comments section that the Best Buy model doesn't have back-lit keyboard, bluetooth, 7200rpm drive and 8gb express cache. Is this true? I was considering buying until I read that!

Question

when will the version of the NP-700 beavailable with BL keyboard

This is a partial version of what the NP-700 is advertised by Samsung. When will the version be available that has a:
-Backlit keyboard
- 7200 RPM HD
- Express Cache memory (this is really why I was looking at this item)

If I am to pay for a premium laptop I would like all these features (this is what Samsung is advertising)

It's well-past the so-called "first weeks of November", and this item is still listed.

The real reason is that the second-gen cores (Sandy Bridge) are slated to be replaced by Ivy Bridge soon. Ivy Bridge promises even /better/ power management and other cool stuff. Look up tri-gate transistors for starters. Haswell is coming straight after Ivy, and after Haswell Skylake, but this is all in the distant future.

A backlit keyboard is nice, but it represents a power drain (though I wish I would have the option of turning it on/off).

7200rpm HD is nice, but an SSD would be even better. However, they'll mark you the heck up for it if it came with it from the factory. However, installing aftermarket likely will void the warranty (sad).
