Hey Ron,
Yes, the Dell Ultrasharp monitor is compatible with a Macbook Air.
The Macbook Air uses a Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt) and the Ultrasharp monitor supports DisplayPort, VGA and DVI-D.
Any Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort, VGA, or DVI-D adapter will work. Any of these adapters will provide you will excellent display quality.

The Dell specifications for this monitor can be found at the link below; and according to the details - yes, it is VESA mount specific (though 100x100 isn't shown).

Hello,
Yes, the Dell Ultrasharp 24" monitor (U2412) has a 100mm VESA bracket on the rear of the panel. The weight of the panel alone (without stand) is 8.73lbs.

as far as i can tell, this has been out of stock for a few weeks. i've seen the price go up and down as it goes on and off sale, but the inventory appears stuck at zero. i have been checking a few times every day for the last few weeks. is this still in production? when will this be back in stock? is there a way to do a raincheck purchase?

This monitor is still an active item from Dell, so there is a chance it will be offered here again. Maybe a Best Buy representative will chime in on this question and provide some insight or help.
