Questions & Answers for Samsung - Crystal Surround Air Track 120W 2.1-Ch. Home Theater Soundbar Speaker System

Question

Connectivity with DVD player and DirecTV receiver

I have a Samsung PN50B550 tv and have my BluRay DVD player and DirecTV receiver connected directly to the tv (not running them through a stereo receiver/amplifier). Can I simply connect a HDMI cable from my tv to the soundbar and be good to go? Or do I have to connect the DVD player and DirecTV receiver to the soundbar?

I essentially asked the same question recently (see "installation/set up") and got a VERY roundabout answer, but again, essentially, their answer was the same. If I'm understanding it all correctly, they're saying, keeping your current DVD and cable box connections, use the audio out (or optical port) on your TV, and use an optical cable to go from the that to the soundbar. If you want to use an HDMI cable, your TV must have a HDMI ARC (I had to Google this... http://hdguru.com/what-is-hdmi-arc-and-what-does-it-do-for-your-hdtv/8322/ . Also see the 2 reviews regarding the HDMI ARC).

Actually, you will want to connect your TV's audio output (either optical or RCA RED/WHITE to 3.5mm jack cable) to the appropriate audio input on the HW-E350.

If your TV is equipped with an HDMI-ARC (Audio Return Channel) port, then you can connect a HDMI 1.4 compliant cable directly to that HDMI port and connect it directly to the Samsung Crystal Surround Air Track. You will likely need to change the audio settings so that the audio is then sent to the soundbar.

If you don't have a television with HDMI-ARC capabilities, you'll need to connect your TV directly to the soundbar using optical audio cable.

There are many options available for Samsung products when it comes to home theater systems. This model is a slim design soundbar designed for wall mounting underneath or over a television.

You may want to speak to your Best Buy retailer for information on products that would best fit your needs. There is likely something in the "Samsung Family" of products that will have all the features you're looking for.

The soundbar can be connected to your sound system with the 3.5mm input and connector cable.

The analog port on the TV will connect to the soundbar with the included cable (part AH39-01077A).

There may be, but the unit was designed only for what came in the package. Additional speakers may tax the amplifier and other electronics over time, and that may cause a problem down the line.

We recommend using the unit as it was delivered.

No, the television and soundbar would have separate codes so that you don't raise both volumes at once.

There are univeral remote controls that support both units, and which allow you to choose which device you want the remote control to always use - that may be a solution in some situations.

The Soundbar can be connected to a television or Blu-Ray player, but does not have a Blu-Ray player included on the soundbar unit itself.

You could connect a Blu-Ray player to this unit - for instance - to play the audio from your Blu-Ray player on this soundbar. But if you purchase it thinking there is a place to put Blu-Ray discs in, it does not have that.

It can work if the television has an analog audio output, like a 3.5mm connection or an RCA port that can be used for sending audio to a receiver or other amplifier.

Question

how to connect soundbar to hd cable box using optical cable?

My cable box does not have hdmi, so I am using an optical cable to connect from the cable box and to audio in on the samsung crystal surround air track soundbar. I am using the red/blu/gr/red/wht cables to connect to tv to the cable box. Do I have to disconnect the red/wht audio out cables from the cable box and red/blk audio in on the tv when using optical out from the cable box to the sound bar audion in/optical? Do I need to select external speakers on the tv instead of tv speaker? I am not getting any sound out of the sound bar and subwoofer.

Connecting the optical cable directly from the cable box to the soundbar, you may need to do one of the following:

1. In the cable box's menu, switch audio settings to "Optical"
2. Switch the input on the soundbar to the corresponding audio optical input.
3. Remove the analog (red and white audio only) cables, while keeping the Red-Blue-Green connection for the picture.

Question

installation/set up

I have a Samsung 46" TV with an optical port, a HD cable box with a HDMI cable into the TV, and a PS3 with a HDMI cable into the TV. When hooking up a soundbar, would the ideal situation be to keep the cable box and PS3 as is, and use the audio cable (which I assume is the same as an optical cable?) from the soundbar into the optical port on the TV?

The answer to your question depends on where you want the audio from your originating devices to go. A general rule of thumb is that most audio devices connected to TV will be available to be sent from the TVs audio output, which is usually then connected directly to your sound bar. (Most people use optical audio in this scenario). If everything connects to television and television connect your sound bar, that is the least complicated and most typical solution we can offer without knowing what, equipment that you have

Without knowing what hardware connections you have already, the best recommendation we could make for assisting with an ideal configuration would be to contact the Best Buy Geek Squad Agents for further assistance. They may be able to help you in either explaining your options based on the hardware that you have, and it may even be overcome out and help assist you in your own home. That's also an option that we will deftly want to make you aware of, since many customers find that option valuable also.
