ITS NOT THE BATTERIES -- check out the internet (google "nikon coolpix battery exhausted"; hundreds of people are experiencing this glitch. best fix i've found so far: remove batteries and memory card, then replace batteries and try again. Maybe update firmware? This fix not confirmed

I have the same camera. My recommendation is getting a set of good rechargable AA batteries. If you buy cheap rechargable batteries the battery life won't be as long than if you bought a better brand. Plus to conserve battery life a little longer there is a setting in the camera itself to adjust power consumption.

I haven't seen or heard of any rechargable battery for this particular camera, however I do know that the rechargable AA batteries would work with this one, Only problem I forsee whit those is that they tend to lose battery life with every charge. Bottome line I would just stock up on Ultimate Lithium batteries, they work the best I find.

I use rechargeable batteries and the battery life is excellent. The alkaline batteries don't last very long.

I like the regular batteries vs. rechargable batteries, for the simple fact that the rechargable batteries tend to lose charge life with every recharge. Not to mention that if left in the charger too long they tend to start leaking acids and cause corrosion to whatever is near.

Question

Framing a picture in bright sunlight.

When taking pictures outdoors in bright sunlight I cannot see the picture I am trying to take as the screen is washed out. Cameras don't come with a viewfinder any more. Does the L610 show a view of what it is you are trying to take a picture of? I hate holding the camera up and guessing if I have framed it properly.

I have taken pics toward the sun and used the exposure compensator button to darken the exposure before taking the pic. I also use my left hand as a sun shade over the screen when framing my pic with good success.

My answer is not perfectly specific to the Nikon L160, but my answer may be helpful to you. I use Pinnacle Studio 12 (newer versions out) for video editing purchased from Best Buy. I remove the SD card (same one used with the L160) from the HD camcorder, slip it into the USD adapter, open the Pinnacle program, and import the HD video into the program for editing. Once in the editing mode, you can easlity "capture" stills from the movie you've imported. Although there is a learning curve, if I can do it, anyone can..lol!

To be on the safe side, you could call Nikon customer serivce, ask the format used for HD video, and then investigate if Pinnacle supports it. Most likely it will. Just a disclaimer, I'm not pushing Pinnacle. It's just that I'm settled in with it. There are probably numerous editing softwares (maybe some free) that will help you accomplish your goal. Good luck!
