Since this system uses a USB connection (and a little setup), it should work on any cumpter system. I have never used Mac, so I can't say for sure. Contact Bose to make sure before you buy them.

Absolutely! The Companion 5 will work seamlessly with either Mac or PC machines. In fact, any Bose computer speakers would work well with a Macbook Pro.

Yes, I believe it would take about 5 minutes, to take out the 1 screw that binds the speaker to the stand. The cord runs up the stand, but it looks like you could just remove this 1 screw, take out the cord, and forget the stand if you wanted. Probably best to email bose if you're really concerned about it. Also, the speakers are slightly angled up on the stands, so they are slightly tilted vertically. May come into play if you just set them on a shelf or something.

The array speakers of the Bose Companion 5 Multimedia system are pre-mounted on stands to deliver accurate, high-quality audio that will surround you with sound. The stands position the speaker for optimal performance. As such, the stands are not detachable from the speaker.

I don't think so. The input for this set is USB only. I have several HDTV's and none have a USB output for audio. The Companion 3 uses a mini phono jack that can be connected to a headphone jack, that should work. The 3's don't have quite the surround effect that the 5's have.

Thanks for the question. The Companion 5 Multimedia Speaker System can be connected to an auxiliary device, such as your television, using the 3.5mm AUX input located on the control pod. As long as you television has a headphone jack or an analog audio out, then this should be able to work.

The Companion 5 multimedia speaker system will definitely be able to work with an iMac, or any other computer that has a USB 2.0 high speed connection. Because this is a fully integrated system, you would not be able to add any additional speakers; however, this system is our premier computer speaker system which offers fully immersive sound. The Companion 5 system is only intended to be used in the same room as the computer.

The Bose Companion 5 system is designed to connect to a computer system via USB. It is possible to connect it to an additional device like an iPod, iPad, or other mp3 player via the 3.5mm Auxiliary input jack. However, this type of connection is not ideal and will not bring you the full benefit of digital sound that the system can produce.

If an ipad is your primary music device, you might consider our Soundlink Mobile wireless speaker system. It can connect to your iPad2 via Bluetooth and play audio on the speaker while letting your device stay mobile. Hope this helps!

When bought in the USA, The Bose Companion 5 requires 120 Volt power at 50/60 Hz. For compatibility and safety reasons we recommend buying the product in the same region you intend to use it in.

Hi Ray.

We don't publish these types of specifications for the majority of our products. We feel that wattage specifications are not always representative of the overall sound quality of a product.

As always, we recommend listening to the product prior to purchase whenever possible. Otherwise, it could always be returned under the retailers return policy.

Thanks for the question.

Question

How can I get the best sound from companion5 if I connect it with TV

I'm thinking about connect it with the LCD TV. So far I have 2 options which are
1) use the 3.5mm. cable on both side and connect to the headphone jack(back of the TV)
2) use the cable that has 3.5mm. and white, red jack to connect with the output at the back of TV.

Which one is the better choice?

And will i able to get the 5.1 surround sound with these methods? If not, could you please let me know how can I get it. Should I buy any converter?

Thanks

Thank you for your question.

The Companion 5 Multimedia Speaker System is designed for use with a computer connected via USB. When connected to a computer with a USB connection, the system can decode stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1 signals. To connect a different type of device, such as a TV, you would need to use the 3.5mm auxiliary audio input on the volume control pod. This is a stereo analog input and will not provide a Dolby Digital 5.1 signal. Either the RCA audio output on the back of your TV or the headphone output will work just fine when connected to the AUX input on the Companion 5.

The Bose Companion 5 system is intended for stationary desktop use and would probably not function well for your particular needs. The system is not portable and a microphone cannot be attached in such a way that would allow you to speak over the music. The sound it will produce is also designed for near-field personal listening with computer games and movies and not for presentation to an audience.

For this type of mobile pro application, we might point you towards our L1 Compact system. This product is not sold through Best Buy but can be found here: http://bit.ly/Kmg5Xa It features easy set-up and storage for portable use and features both line and microphone inputs to let you present from a computer and microphone. More importantly, this type of system is designed to be used in music presentation/performance.

We hope this helps!

Thank you for your question.

The Companion 5 speaker system is designed to be a near field computer speaker system. The interaction between the speaker arrays and the Acoustimass bass module makes proper placement of the speakers critical to the acoustic performance of the system. Ideal placement of the speaker arrays is directly beside the monitor, facing straight ahead, at an equal distance from the listener. We recommend placing the bass module below the computer desk. As such, we've found that the hardwired 8' speaker wires included with the system help to ensure optimal performance while providing flexibility with placement and we do not make longer wires.
