You cannot connect an external microphones on the HDR-PJ230 Camcorder. You can only make use of the built in microphones, for more information please refer to page 16 of the manual to see parts and controls of the camcorder using the link below.

Question

why are you guys in the stone age of displaying camera and camcorder specs and data:

why are you guys in the stone age of displaying camera and camcorder specs and data: The first thing anyone buying a camcorder wants to know is the image resolution 460, 720, 960, 1080, 4K... Then we want to know what still image resolution is in terms of Megapixels and of course the memory type and capacity will follow. Without this info a consumer can't make a pound for pound judgement between similar devices -- I should be able to see all this without having to click on specs.

The correct answer is basic to marketing 101: "Sell the sizzle, not the steak". Most people buy on impulse (as I did in this case with only a little research prior), and wouldn't know one spec from another (they don't care). "Pretty.....buy" is the mantra of many. Sad, but even good corporations know this and won't spend extra money for what's not demanded by the "majority".

Question

How do you transfer files directly to a computer?

I haven't bought a memory card for the videocamera yet, but now that the internal memory is full I want to transfer that memory to my computer. Shouldn't there be a cable that comes with the camera that allows me to connect it to my computer? The only 2 cables that came with the camera is the mini HDMI output, and then some weird male to female USB cable, yet there is no USB port on the camera. Any one have any clues?

The camcorder has a built in USB cord that tucks into the hand strap. One of the cords that come with the camcorder is basically a USB extension cable that you attach to the built in USB and then connect to your computer. Your computer will install some drivers and then you can browse the camcorder files and transfer them over to your computer.
