Questions & Answers for Dynex - 4-Port Ethernet Broadband Router

Question

Will this work with CenturyLink DSL?

I was wondering if this product will work with CenturyLink DSL? I bought a Zyxel 660R-D1 and it wouldn't work even though it looked just like the one CenturyLink provided. I got terrible customer service from where I bought & couldn't return it. So, before I get stuck with another paperweight, will it work? I'm not really tech oriented but can follow basic directions for installation. I'm sick of paying rental fees to CenturyLink!!!!!

This is just an Ethernet router not a modem. It still requires a cable or DSL modem in front of it. DSL can be a bit tricky to set up if the modem comes from another manufacurer other than the phone company. I suspect the ZyXel you have will work if you get the correct configuration into it. One thing to check is the VPI/VCI settings. AT&T / Bellsouth use a 8/35 setting Century link may use a default setting of 0/35.

Question

Can you connect a wireless router to this wired router?

I have used this Dynex router Model: DX-E402 to connect a small home network for about 2 years. I have a new tablet PC that requires WiFi and want to know if I can connect a wireless router to the Dynex wired router to occasionally connect to WiFi? I only want WiFi to be on when using the tablet.

Multiple routers can often be "daisy-chained" together, but the exact steps required vary by make and model. Replacing your current router with a Wi-Fi compatible model and using both network encryption and MAC filters may prove to be a more viable solution, however, as well as a solution that requires less shelf space.

For information on wireless security and MAC filters, make sure to speak with a computer specialist or Geek Squad agent at your local store.

Question

how to see modem through router?

Excellent router, but I'd like to see my modem GUI through it. I'm not sure how to set up the static route I think I need to do that.

My modem GUI is addressable directly (as are most new modems) at 192.168.1.254. What do I need to enter for "destination IP", "subnet mask", and "default gateway" on the Static Route page of the DX-E402 so I can get to the modem GUI through the router?

This is a VERY common question in forums, but I've never been able to apply answers to the DX-E402. Seems like everyone connecting their modem to this router would like to have this capability.
