This is definitely possible. It really depends on how you have everything connected. i.e. - If you are connected using straight cable (no box) then you can split the signal, connect one end to the TV and the other end to the recorder and everything will work fine. If you are using a cable box or satellite box then this will not be possible.

When copying the VHS over to DVD you can press the STOP button to stop the recording. Then fast forward the VHS past the commercials and then proceed to begin the copying process again.

The tape speeds available on this model are SP, LP, EP, and VP. When you stop the DVD while recording, it creates a new chapter and if you record again, it will pick up where you left off without overwriting the previous recording.

As long as there is an analog input going into the recorder, this unit should be able to record it. Also keep in mind that certain content is under copyright and we cannot support unauthorized recording of copyrighted material.

If this problem occurs when you try recording a different VHS to DVD then we can safely say that there may be an internal problem with the recorder. If not, then there may be some kind of copy write protection on the tape in which you may have to consult with the company that originally recorded it.

Question

does this unit have closed caption or subtitles on playback

I must have a unit that supports closed caption or subtitles, due to a hearing loss. Also, does your Toshiba DVR670 have these features as well?

Hi Larry. As long as the disc has subtitles on it, this unit will be able to play them back. The unit also has a decoder so that if you are using cable, you will be able to see captioning.

Question

TV CHANNELS, HDMI and Remote Controls?

Can I plug the cable TV coax cable into the back of this device and it then search for all available channels, I think we have some 250+ available. Does it then send the digital TV signal through the HDMI output to the input on my Panasonic 5:1 home theater system receiver and then from there to my digital TV? Can I use the remote control to select TV channels. Is that all done in 1080p?

A lot of good questions! This unit has a digital tuner but only goes up to 135 therefore if your cable provider has more channels you will need their box to decode the rest of the channels. When the signal is received by this unit, it will output in digital format.
