After you have printed your regular plan pages and all available rollover pages in one billing month, you can still print additional pages--and still save money compared to using standard ink cartridges.

Additional pages are purchased in sets of 15, 20 and 25 pages, depending on your plan. Each set of additional pages is just $1.00. If you find yourself exceeding your limit regularly, it’s easy to change your plan online.

You don't get any papers to print in with this program. You are alloted to print up to 50 pages without going over with the 2.99 plan. You supply your own paper, hp supplies the ink.

You just print as you want and HP monitors your usage online and sends ink when your printer is running low. If you print more than fifty pages, there is a minimal charge for each page you go over.

Once you go online and set everything up your computer will send a signal every time you print. It counts the copies printed so if you get 50 free ( I do too) then it won't start charging you until after that amount.

No, you don't have to buy a new printer to start the program. All you need is a compatible printer. As long as you have one, you can start instant ink at any time.

Not sure whether you need a new printer. All printers can not be a part of this program. However, you can contact Instant Ink to see if your printer is capable of using with the program.

You can find out online if your printer is eligible for the monthly ink. I did buy a new printer just so I could get on the plan. You will never run out of ink. The year old HP printer I had was not eligible. It was worth the low cost of the printer to be able to take advantage of the monthly ink.

The printer has to be compatible with the program. I would suggest calling the 800 number of the subscription service to ask. Some printers may be too old.

Since you have an eligible printer (HP 8610), you can start now, you do not need to buy a new printer, you just need to purchase the plan and activate it.

The ink cartridges are mailed to you and replenished when needed all for the low monthly cost of the plan you choose. No extra cost for the cartridges when sent to you. Just 2.99, 4.99, or 9.99 per month.

The cartridges are free even if you go over your limit. You'll pay a penalty if you go over.....I think its like a dollar for 15 pages. But the cartridge is still free. I've had mine since Dec.2014. Received my first cartridges within a week of setting up my printer. Your "clock" doesn't start ticking until you put in the cartridges that you get in the mail. The cartridges in your printer box will not sync up to the net and count against you.

Question

Instant Ink: Replace all colors at once or just those that are empty?

I has just occurred to me that not all the colors will be used at the same rate. So in the Instant Ink Program are we to replace all colors at once even though some cartridges may still contain ink?

If you look at the plans, the fine print says what each tier's surcharge will be for additional pages beyond the included monthly limit. For the 100-page limit, I believe it is $.20 a page. Also, if you have any rollover pages from previous months, the 100-page limit can be higher.

The HP Instant Ink program supports the HP ENVY 5660, HP Officejet 5740, which support the HP 62 and HP 62XL ink cartridges and the HP Officejet Pro 8620, which take the HP 950 and HP 950XL ink cartridges. A printer that uses the HP 564 ink is not an eligible printer for the HP Instant Ink Program.
