They recycle them for you as part of the service. They send you a little bag with a label they pay for and you return them whenever you want.

HP includes a prepaid return envelope in the package with the instant ink cartridges. Simply put the empty INSTANT INK cartridges into the envelope and drop in the mail. HP pays for shipping both directions and you are being a good earth citizen by recycling!

As far as Best Buy points are concerned, they do rollover month-to-month. So, you shouldn't feel prompted to spend them as soon as you can. However, they may have an expiration date.

Question

What about cartridges that go bad?

I typically go months without printing anything. Then when I need to print, no amount of cartridge cleaning will provide decent quality products with my HP printer and HP cartridges. I need to install new ink cartridges. I may print one to one hundred pages for a specific need over the next couple of days, then nothing again for four to six months. Sure enough, I need new cartridges the next time I try to print something (and another $60 - $80). Do these "smart" printers know when cartridges are going bad and order new cartridges so I don't have to quickly run to the store and purchase cartridges before I can print? Perhaps laserjet is a better choice for my irregular printing habits?

Sorry. HP. I had this issue too. Then I switched to Canon and the issue is no more. And ink is less money. And my scans take less time and seem crisper (lines)

If you only print occasionally, you should still print a test page or something similar every other week or so. This keeps the cartridges active and will prevent them from drying out.

Question

Instant Ink not compatable with HP4650?

the instant ink says it is offered with the printer I want to buy, but when I click on the option 300 sheets per month it lists all other HP models except the one I want to buy. Why would you offer instant ink for something it is not compatable with?

Yes. It was explained to me that the $2.99 is every month (although we received 3 free months with sign-up) and we don't do 50. Check out the prices of the individual ink cartridges vs. the fee and compare. Your $2.99 is a steal!!

If the printer messes up a printed page, do they count that as 1 page?

My printer has messed a few pages up where it will print half way and then that's it. Do they count that as a page if it doesn't print all the way?

The printer keeps track of the number of pages printed, so I would imagine that HP sees that too. Therefore, I would conclude that it would count toward the total.

Yes, unfortunately it still counts as a page even if the page does not print all the way. I've had this happen where a page didn't print completely and when I checked my print count on the website it still counted that page.

It sounds like you may have the duplex printing option on. That's where it is supposed to print on two sides but generally doesn't do it unless the user does something specific. If it seems to print every other page than its most likely this.

Question

Can I change plans?

Can I change plans after purchase if I find my printing needs dictate it? For example, if I find the $9.99/mo plan or the $2.99/mo works better, can I change my plan? Would I incur any penalties for doing so?

The ink arrives when it's about to run out. HP tracks how many pages you print and will automatically send you ink before it runs out.

You only get ink sent when your printer is at 40% or below ink levels. So, if your printer has not reached that yet, you will not get ink sent. You pay $5.33 a month for them to send it to you before you run out. Hope that helped.
