HP is unable to accurately comment on this question because there are too many variables like the format, mode and other factors. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Yes I have. Depends on the printer as long as you have an option to print only in black and white or grayscale..

This HP Printer requires the use of all of ink cartridges in order to print. All of the ink cartridges must be functional and not completely depleted of ink. This HP Printer has the ability to be manually set to where it prints using just the black ink cartridge. Please keep in mind that in order to achieve a true black you will need the use of all of the inks. If you manually set the printer to use just the black ink only the prints will be in grayscale.

Question

Why aren't the Symbols printed on the Packaging

If the bowtie and pentagon symbols are so important (because the bowtie is not usuable in all printers); why doesn't HP print the icons on the packaging material so when you buy a package of ink; you aren't suprised to find, the black ink (the only one needing to be replaced at the moment) will not work in your printer. This has happened to me and I can tell you as a customer; I am very frustrated. This is like false advertising.

I don't have an answer to this question, but I feel exactly the same why. You're not sure from the packaging if you're buying the black photo cartridge or the just black cartridge. HP should put the symbols on the outside of the package so you know which cartridge you are purchasing

Every HP printer I've ever used has those symbols, they are for proper placement of the correct cartridge in it's correct slot in the printer. The figures are not for determining which ink cartridge to buy. for that you must find your printer model number on the ink packaging, it's usually on one of the sides. Also HP includes a card with the printer that has the cartridge number on it. Hope this helps.

The difference between the two cartridges that you listed in your question is the amount of ink that they cartridges hold. The HP 564XL Original Ink Cartridges are high yield cartridges and contain more ink. They are considered as a cost effective purchase because the cost per page is lower then the standard HP 564 Original Ink Cartridges.

Question

The HP 564 setup cartridge w/ the Black Pentagon.......

It is thicker than the Photo ink Cartridge. Does that needs to be in place, for my color pictures to be printed. The ink in the cartridge is out, what other cartridge is needed? The same, which I cannot find or another HP 564 Photo Black cartridge, which is much thinner. Thank you, I have the wireless HO Photosmart 7525 printer.

I buy mine at local Best Buy store. Sometimes they are out of stock, just ask customer service when more will be coming in. Or you can order direct from HP. One of my friends gets his at BJ's Wholesale and another at Costco.
You should not have any problems finding these.

They each go into their respective slots. You cannot interchange. The cartridges need to be installed but not necessarily full. They can be empty.

We discovered that you do need to replace your regular black ink cartridge when printing photos even though you do have the photo black cartridge installed with ink supply. Apparently, during printing, your projects pull a degree of black from both.

Question

Message: Ink cartridge appears to be missing

On my Photosmart C6300 I replaced the three color cartridges and the black XL. I'm now getting a message that the Photo Black is missing -- although I had not had one in that slot befor. It printed fine without the Photo Black, but now I just get the error message and nothing will print. BTW, I never print photos, so I have never replaced that cartridge since the original one ran out years ago.

I have had this issue before as well. It seems that sometimes you may get a cartridge with a bad sensor chip in the 564 black inks. Try exchanging it for the Vivid black. That has always worked for me! Good luck!!

Most HP printers will not work without all of the cartridges in place as the printer needs to recognize that the proper ones are in place before you can print anything. I am not sure if there was a glitch that allowed you to print without the black cartridge being installed, but I have had brand new cartridges that the printer would not recognize after installing them. Each cartridge has a tiny circuit strip on it that may be damaged. Try using a different cartridge and return the one that doesn't work. I don't know about you, but stuff like this happens to me when I have the least amount of time for it.
