The RF266AERS has a lever located above the icebucket that detects when the bucket is full and turns the icemaking function off until ice is removed.

The water dispenser in this model is located on the inside left wall of the refrigerator compartment. I've attached a picture indicating its location.

Question

Depth when doors are taken off - will it fit through a 31 1/2" wide doorway?

The doorway to my kitchen is 31 1/2 " wide. If doors are taken off, will the refridgerator fit through? The Pdf from Samsung from this model says that the "depth without hinges" is 28 7/8" - does that mean with the doors take off? Thanks for your help.

The RF266AERS will fit through your 31-1/2" doorway if you remove the doors and drawer. Without these, the unit's case depth is 29-1/8". Instructions for removing the refrigerator doors are in the User Manual, which can be downloaded from Samsung's website. There is actually an easier way to remove the bottom freezer drawer that does not even require any tools; just follow these steps: 1. Open the freezer drawer and remove the upper "Auto Pull-Out" freezer drawer by lifting it up and pulling it toward you. 2. Locate the white plastic release buttons located toward the rear of the metal freezer drawer railing on both the right and left side. 3. Pull the freezer drawer out while pressing the release buttons (you may need a second person to help with this step). The entire drawer and railing should pull out together. 4. To reassemble, just align and slide the drawer rail back onto the track, being sure to push it in the entire way so the buttons lock back in place, then replace the upper bin, too. The ice bin in the RF266AERS measures approximately 9" wide by 5" high by 14" deep, which would hold 2-3/4 gallons of liquid, or about 7-8 pounds of ice cubes.

The RF266AERS may take up to 24 hours after installation to reach the temperature and conditions necessary for ice production to begin. After that, it should produce ice every 90 minutes, under ideal conditions (freezer remains closed, water pressure is at the required 20~125 psi, and the freezer temperature is set to the recommended -2°F). To speed up ice production, press the Power Freeze button on the control panel.

The cooling system in Samsung refrigerators is fully enclosed, but the units still require a minimum clearance of 2" in the rear, as well as 2" above and 1" on each side, to allow sufficient air circulation for the system to operate properly and most efficiently. It's also worth noting that the clearance increases to 3-3/4" on either side opening into a full wall or adjacent cabinets, so the door can open at least 90 degrees unobstructed by the handle.

Question

Difference between RF263, RF265, RF266?

What is the difference between the RF263, RF265 (older model?), and RF266 (with internal ice dispenser)? Do they all have clear gallon bins on the doors? And do they have the one glass shelf that can slide to a half shelf to allow for taller items? Thanks in advance.

You are correct that the RF265 is an older model, which is no longer in production. The RF265 was replaced by the RF263, which has Samsung's signature Twin Cooling System, LED lighting and an automatic icemaker in the freezer. The RF266 has everything the RF263 has, plus it features the internal water dispenser. Both models have an internal water filtration system.

These models' specifications include opaque bins and fixed shelves. While clear bins and split, retractable shelves are available in other models, they would need to be ordered separately if you'd like to add them to these.

While Samsung does make a number of larger capacity French Doors, all available models do have the ice and water dispenser in the door, and none of them have an internal water dispenser like the RF266.

I'm sorry your refrigerator is noisy. Most noises can be reduced by properly leveling the refrigerator. If the sound you're hearing is a ratcheting noise and your refrigerator is not connected to water, then turning off the icemaker should resolve the issue. If the sound is related to the icecubes dropping into the storage container, then allowing the bucket to fill should help to reduce the noise; ice dropping onto other cubes isn't as loud as having them drop a longer distance onto cold plastic. If the sound continues, I would suggest calling 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.
