The RF266AERS, like other Samsung refrigerators, cannot be ordered without the icemaker which is factory-installed. If you do not wish to use this feature, you may choose to turn it off by pressing the "ICE OFF" button on the control panel and using the ice bin storage in the freezer for another purpose.

The RF266AERS is 35-3/4" wide; 68-5/8" high without hinges, 69-3/4" high with hinges; 29-1/8" deep without doors, 33" deep with doors but without handles, and 35-5/8" deep with handles. The 25.8 cubic foot total capacity is divided as follows: 17.7 cubic foot refrigerator compartment, and 8.1 cubic foot freezer.

This model's features include Samsung's signature Twin Cooling System, which keeps food fresh longer and helps eliminate odor transfer between the refrigerator and freezer; LED lighting in the refrigerator; EZ Open freezer drawer handle for durability and ease of use; and internal filtered water dispenser and icemaker. In addition, the RF266AERS shares Samsung's five-year legacy of JD Power & Associates Overall Customer Satisfaction Award-winning refrigerators (2005-2009).

The water filter in Samsung's RF266AERS is located inside the refrigerator, above the upper right shelf. It should not be necessary to pull the whole refrigerator out, though some customers find it easier to remove and replace the filter with the water line shut off at the valve. This is usually not necessary, however.

The level of difficulty of removing and reattaching the refrigerator doors on the RF266AERS depends on your comfort level using some basic tools (screwdrivers, allen wrench, etc.). This task really requires two people, so one can hold the door in place while the other works with the tools to disassemble then reassemble the hinges. I would suggest reviewing the instructions beginning on page 9 of the User Manual (which can be downloaded as a pdf from Samsung's website) to determine the level of difficulty based on your own comfort level. Regarding the removal of the freezer drawer, there is actually an easier method than the one described in the User Manual. Just follow these steps:
1. Open the freezer drawer and remove the upper "Auto Pull-Out" freezer drawer by lifting it up and pulling it toward you.
2. Locate the white plastic release buttons located toward the rear of the metal freezer drawer railing on both the right and left side.
3. Pull the freezer drawer out while pressing the release buttons. The entire drawer and railing should pull out together.
4. To reassemble, just align and slide the drawer rail back onto the track, being sure to push it in the entire way so the buttons lock back in place, then replace the upper bin.

Keep in mind that Best Buy's Appliance Associates are able to help arrange your delivery and installation, including removing and reattaching your doors, if needed.

Question

For moving purposes is it okay to lay the refrigerator on its side for a few minutes?

In order to get the fridge into the kitchen it needs to be laid on its side to get through the opening. Would that cause any damage to the unit?

Laying the refrigerator on its side would not damage the internal system, but it's very important to allow it to stand upright for at least 24 hours before plugging it in to avoid potential serious damage to the cooling system. I would also exercise caution to avoid scratching or denting the outside of the refrigerator.

The full depth of the RF266AERS refrigerator with the freezer drawer fully extended is 54-1/2"; the depth with the refrigerator doors open 90-degrees is 47-3/4". Samsung recommends leaving another 2" clearance behind the unit to allow sufficient air flow for the cooling system to work properly and most efficiently.

If you find that you do not have the full 56-1/2" clearance needed to be able to open the freezer drawer the whole way, you may want to consider Samsung's 23 cubic foot counter depth model RFG237AARS. The full depth needed to extend the freezer drawer and allow for the 2" clearance in the rear is only 48-1/4" for this model.

The cooling system in Samsung refrigerators is fully enclosed, but the units still require a minimum clearance of 2" in the rear, as well as 2" above and 1" on each side, to allow sufficient air circulation for the system to operate properly and most efficiently. It's also worth noting that the clearance increases to 3-3/4" on either side opening into a full wall or adjacent cabinets, so the door can open at least 90 degrees unobstructed by the handle.

Question

Depth when doors are taken off - will it fit through a 31 1/2" wide doorway?

The doorway to my kitchen is 31 1/2 " wide. If doors are taken off, will the refridgerator fit through? The Pdf from Samsung from this model says that the "depth without hinges" is 28 7/8" - does that mean with the doors take off? Thanks for your help.

The RF266AERS will fit through your 31-1/2" doorway if you remove the doors and drawer. Without these, the unit's case depth is 29-1/8". Instructions for removing the refrigerator doors are in the User Manual, which can be downloaded from Samsung's website. There is actually an easier way to remove the bottom freezer drawer that does not even require any tools; just follow these steps: 1. Open the freezer drawer and remove the upper "Auto Pull-Out" freezer drawer by lifting it up and pulling it toward you. 2. Locate the white plastic release buttons located toward the rear of the metal freezer drawer railing on both the right and left side. 3. Pull the freezer drawer out while pressing the release buttons (you may need a second person to help with this step). The entire drawer and railing should pull out together. 4. To reassemble, just align and slide the drawer rail back onto the track, being sure to push it in the entire way so the buttons lock back in place, then replace the upper bin, too. The RF266AERS has a lever located above the icebucket that detects when the bucket is full and turns the icemaking function off until ice is removed.

The water dispenser in this model is located on the inside left wall of the refrigerator compartment. I've attached a picture indicating its location.

Besides being fingerprint-resistant, the Stainless Platinum finish on the RF266AEPN is also magnetic, which the Stainless Steel RF266AERS is not.
