Press "timer menu" on the remote, and then choose"clock". This will allow you to change the time. If you want to set an alarm, first go to the radio station that you want to wake up to and put the volume on what you want it to be. Then press "timer menu" and choose "play set". Select the time you want it to start and then the time you want it to automatically shut off, and then the function that you want it on. It wil then repeat all the things you selected and the alarm will be on. To turn it off, press "timer menu" and then choose "select", and choose off.

Hello. Welcome to the Best Buy community. Thank you for your question. The Sony MHC-EC909IP shelf system operating instructions indicate under the section, “To Set the Clock,” that the clock must be set with this unit’s supplied remote control. Let’s get started. Using the unit’s remote control, press the Power button to turn the Sony stereo on. Press the Timer Menu button to select the clock set mode. It is possible that the words “Play Set” will appear in the LCD display. In this case, press the up or down arrow keys over and over again to select the “Clock” mode, and then press the Enter button. Press the up or down arrow keys as needed to set the correct hour and then press the Enter button. Press the up or down arrows keys as needed to adjust the minutes. Please note that the clock settings will be lost if the unit loses power. Follow the procedures above to reset the clock, if necessary. Lastly, you must press the Display button on the remote control to show the clock on the lcd display when the unit is powered off. Good Luck.

No. Unfortunately, the operating instructions and marketing specifications for the Sony MHC-EC909IP Mini Shelf System do not indicate that the iPod nano 6th generation is compatible with the built-in iPod dock of this unit. However, the operating instructions and marketing specifications do indicate that you can connect an MP3 or portable digital music player to the Audio Line Input featuring a 3.5mm jack for playback of the connected MP3 player through the system's speakers. Good Luck.

No. The Sony MHC-EC909IP Shelf System operating instructions, marketing specifications, Sony esupport website, and bestbuy.com do not indicate that this Sony shelf system “would be able to just plug in to my car or something like that where I don’t have to install anything.” The Sony MHC-EC909IP shelf system is designed exclusively to be used in the home with AC household current as its power source. Please note that this Sony shelf system is not portable and can’t be powered by AA cell batteries. A portable system is only achieved if the stereo can operate on batteries as a power source and is considered lightweight. This Sony shelf system can’t be powered by batteries and is far too large and heavy to transport with its detached multiple-speaker setup featuring a dedicated subwoofer. Shelf systems are not the correct product category for portable audio. Best Buy does not sell any shelf system that can be powered by a car. Sorry. Good Luck.

The answer to all of your questions is no. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) did implement an HD radio broadcast standard in 2002 that permitted FM and AM radio stations to broadcast a hybrid digital transmission of their respective broadcasts. The HD broadcast is a digital signal that contains audio and data information. The HD broadcast was not intended by the FCC as a replacement for traditional analog radio broadcasting. In fact, many FM and AM stations from across the country broadcast a digital and analog signal simultaneously. However, only an HD radio/receiver can pick up the enhanced digital broadcast. The FCC is the federal executive agency with exclusive jurisdiction over radio broadcasting in the United States. The FCC has never sought to terminate analog radio transmission and it has not announced any plans to "switch from analog to digital on radio broadcasting." Therefore, analog radio tuners are not going to become obsolete any time soon. You should feel comfortable purchasing any analog radio product from Best Buy if you so desire. Best Buy does not carry any equivalent Sony component shelf system with a built-in HD tuner. Good Luck.

Question

I'm new to this- please help out!

I'm new to this audio buying process and i was wondering if how many watts a speaker requires should be fulfilled just by the total watt output of the system, or by some other external power source. I listen to very loud electronic music centered around an extremely low bassline (dubstep). Before i invest $200 I need to make sure that this system will be able to handle the music i play and that it will be heard by everyone during parties. I want to make sure the sound is crisp but yet the bass large and "thick". Thanks so much for all feedback!

I also listen to dubsteb, and this radio makes it sound awsome. You aren't able to connect extra speakers to the system, so you can only use the ones in the box. The watts just means how much total power the system can send to the speakers, and the speakers have a limited amount of watts they can handle before getting blown out. Each speaker has a specific port in the back of the system, so it can't send more watts then the speakers can handle. When you turn the volume to max, they shouldn't blow out. When I bought mine, the sales person let me plug my ipod into the dock and then blast it on full volume, so if you want to test it out, you probably can. As far as it being lound enough for parties, I turn the volume up about 2/3's of the way to max, and you can hear it in my whole house, even with all the doors closed and through walls. It's loud enough to make the walls, windows, and floors shake if that's what your looking for.

Hello Mike. Welcome to the Best Buy community. Thank you for your question. The speaker wattage question is irrelevant here. You can only use the supplied factory speaker system with the Sony MHC-EC-909IP shelf stereo system. As for the bass “thickness” question, this Sony MHC-EC909IP shelf system is a high performance shelf system with a dedicated subwoofer that Best Buy sells and it produces prodigious amounts of wall shaking “thick” bass that is just perfect for your next party or other entertainment event. It is my opinion that you won’t be disappointed with this Sony shelf system’s bass performance for any occasion. Personally, I believe that Sony shelf systems offer the best performance, features, and value for your money. Good Luck.

No. The speaker system included with the Sony MHC-EC909IP shelf system can be separated only to the extent or length that the factory supplied speaker cords support. The included speakers can only be connected with the factory supplied proprietary speaker cords. You can’t purchase an aftermarket compatible set of speaker cords with a longer length than the factory supplied speaker cords. The included speaker cords are not industry standard speaker cords, will not support a compatible connection to aftermarket speakers, and have been tested and confirmed by Sony to work exclusively with this Sony shelf system. Sony can’t provide support or assure the performance, quality, audio quality, power handling capacity, compatibility, and functionality of third party speaker wire with its shelf stereo systems unless otherwise indicated. Shelf systems that are sold by Best Buy are closed proprietary systems as it pertains to the speaker system that the stereo systems come with. A shelf system speaker system and accompanying speaker cords have been carefully designed, constructed, and tested by the manufacturer to ensure that it can handle the amplifier output power of the system. In addition, a shelf system manufacturer has carefully designed the factory supplied speaker cords and speakers that can achieve the sonic characteristics that the manufacturer has intended the customer to hear once the system has been properly set-up at home. A shelf system is the wrong product category to consider purchasing aftermarket speaker cables to connect to the shelf system. The correct product category to add appropriate length speaker cables of your choice is a component stereo receiver. There is much more flexibility with respect to choice in speaker wire for the component receiver. There are very few limitations other than your budget when making this receiver speaker wire selection decision. Good Luck.

No. I can’t recommend the connection of your turntable to the Sony MHC-EC909IP shelf system. The Sony MHC-EC909IP shelf system does not feature a dedicated Phono input for connection to a turntable. There is no information contained in this unit’s operating instructions that indicates that a turntable can be connected to this stereo system. Even if your turntable does have a built-in preamplifier, the turntable’s sound may become low and distorted on the Sony MHC-EC909IP shelf system. A turntable should be connected to a stereo system that offers a dedicated Phono input for maximum audio performance and reliability. However, don’t despair. You can still purchase a Sony shelf system from Best Buy that will meet your needs. The Sony LBT-ZX66i |SKU:9209215 shelf system features a dedicated Phono input for connection to your turntable. Good Luck.
