answer 4
After replacing the filter you'll need to reset the Filter Indicator Light by pressing the appropriate button on the control panel. Which button you press varies depending on the Refrigerator model, but many of the current models have the Alarm button assigned for this task, with the words "Hold 3 seconds for Filter Reset" or something similar printed below the button. If you don't see the instructions on the control panel, you can find them in your Refrigerator's User Manual, or if you submit a new question with the model number I'll be happy to let you know which button to press and for how long.

I tried the Insignia brand and it did not fit for my refrigerator. The end of the filter is different than the Samsung brand. I ended up purchasing the Samsung brand. The model number for the replacement cartridge is DA29-00020B. This will fit the refrigerator model number RFG297HDRS

Question

The manual of my Samsung RFG28MESL refrigerator indicates the HAF-CIN/XME as the proper water filter for the model.

However, I cannot find it with the extension "XME". Wherever I look for a Samsung refrigerator Water filter , I can only find as HAF-CIN. Are these models exactly the same?

Yes, the HAF-CIN and HAF-CIN/XME are the same. The model number you've provided for the refrigerator is not consistent with any current models, but if your refrigerator's manual indicates the HAF-CIN/XME then the HAF-CIN will also fit.

Shut-off the water supply to the refrigerator, and bleed all the water and air from the refrigerator using the dispenser. Replace filter, and water supply and repeat dispensing water. Noise should stop.

answer 2
Since the filter itself has no moving parts, it should not be capable of making a squeaking noise. I would suggest removing it, then reinstalling ensuring it is locked securely in place. Flush the system thoroughly by dispensing 5-6 gallons of water. If the noise persists, it may help to review the articles about different types of noises in the refrigerator troubleshooting guides on Samsung's website. For further assistance, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent.

The water filter in your RF263BEAESR is located between the crisper drawers inside the refrigerator compartment - see attached image. This and other information can also be found in the User Manual, which can be downloaded as a pdf file from Samsung's website.

Samsung only has 2 different filters one is a longer cylinder and the other is smaller. So as long as you know which shape it is you can't get wrong one

Question

Do you actually NEED this filter?

Do you actually NEED this filter? What happens if you don't replace it? I live in an area with great tap water, and paying 50 bucks every time the light flashes and say "replace" seems unnecessary and costly.

My light came on after 10 months or so. I didn't think it was too expensive. Of ccourse, it is going to be more expensive than the tap water, but if you buy filtered water at the store like me it saves lot of trouble and some money, too.

Thanks for the question. Samsung recommends maintaining the filtration system in refrigerator models that have it to help prevent damage to the internal water lines that can result from impurities or debris in the water supply. The water dispenser and ice maker are designed to function whether or not a filter is installed, however, so homes with an external filtration or reverse osmosis system would not need to replace the filter regularly.

Question

It leaks no matter what

I put a new filter in and it leaks. I shut the valve off and installed the new filter. I then ran about 4-5 gallons of water to make sure the lines were clear. About 20 mins later, I notice it was dripping from the front of the filter where you lock/unlock it. Please help!! How do I get it to stop leaking/dripping???

According to the manual drips are normal when installing / replacing. It may be air pressure preventing the filter from locking correctly. I waited 12-24 hours (norm for Samsung) before installing second time and with only a few drips. It may also be a bad filter. Call or Chat with a Samsung tech they are very helpful and will send instructions and diagrams while waiting online for you to attempt to correct issue.
