The iPod Nano does require a connected cable for proper operation of the radio since it acts as the antenna. Also, if there is a cable connected (3.5mm auxiliary cable or headphones), the iPod routes the audio to the headphone jack as opposed to the dock. To use the radio feature of this iPod with the SoundDock Series III system, we recommend using a connected 3.5mm audio cable in the AUX input on the rear of the speaker. We hope this helps. Thank you!
