Does this speaker fit within the depth of typical drywalls? How do I check if the space between drywalls is sufficient before cutting a hole through?

Should fit, mine was standard 2x4 framing and it fit fine even with a wire running through the wall behind it. I added a layer of insulation behind it as well

Drill a small hole. Insert ridged wire, like from a wire hanger to check depth. Then bend the wire to half the size of the speaker, reinsert into the wall and rotate the wire to check that it doesn't hit any obstructions. This method should help ensure you install it between two studs. You must have about an inch of drywall all round the opening to affix to.

They fit wonderfully in a typical wall. I have 2 in the ceiling also.

cutting half way through the sheetrock wall and then punching the rest is a terrible idea.

you want a clean opening, not a bunch of torn paper and shredded mess on from the back side of the newly formed edges.

Cut all the way through with a serrated steak knife, or better - buy a simple drywall saw for a couple bucks at Home Depot. search Youtube it, It's trivial.

Steps for installation.
Use a stud finder to locate an open area for the speaker.
Use the provided template to outline he hole
Use a new blade and cut through the paper drywall covering. Make several passes to get through most of the drywall. No real need to go all the way through.
Cut an "X" from corner to corner of the rectangle
Use a mallet or hammer to punch through.

Yes, I did - pretty easy and secure. I built boxes around mine in the attic for (slightly) better sound and to keep the insulation away from them.

Can you? Yes. I wouldn't advise it though - your center channel is the most important speaker in your home theater system - I would spend a little more money and get something better.

Yes it would be an awesome center channel for its frequency response.
Problem is they come as a pair so you would have an extra one.

They register as 6 oHms. I think with the crossovers the oHms drop.
Depending on your amplifying source, they should do well on 8 or 4 oHms.
If your source is restricted to 4, your volume level will lower than expected.
If your source is 8, the volume will be higher than expected,and will generate more heat.
You should be fine.

No, it is friction. Basically it squeezes in.
To remove the grille, a small prying utensil can be used to gently separate the grille from the face of the unit.
