You can try putting it on a tripod, but it might not stay there because there is nothing on the camera assembly that allows for you to fasten it to the tripod. The best way to mount this is to have its base arranged so that it rests atop a flat panel monitor. If you want to use this camera for a headshot of someone for the purpose of storing photos for IDs (as I have witnessed this scenario on many occasions), you would need something with the thickness, height and sturdiness of a flat panel monitor--and some tape, too.
